Arsenal star Kai Havertz now on track to do something that he’s never done before in his career

Kai Havertz has become one of Arsenal’s most important players.

There were a lot of question marks over the Germany international when he first moved to the Emirates from Chelsea. His slow start in North London led to a ton of criticism as well.

However, since the turn of 2024, Havertz has got better and better in Arsenal’s colours, and he is now among the first names on the team sheet.

If the former Chelsea man can continue this form, he can do something that he has never done before in his senior career.

Arsenal star Kai Havertz could break personal goalscoring record this season

Havertz started his senior career at Bayer Leverkusen as a teenager in the 2016/17 season.

The German burst onto the scene then and was quickly viewed as one of the best young talents on the planet. He attracted interest from several big clubs across Europe.

Chelsea managed to get hold of him and despite scoring the winner in the Champions League final for the Blues, his time there is viewed as unsuccessful.

Mikel Arteta has transformed Havertz now and has revived his career. The German has scored five goals already this season and is now on track to smash his personal best record.

The most goals Havertz has scored in a single campaign in all competitions is 20 – that came in the 2018/19 season while he was still at Leverkusen.

Havertz currently averages a goal every 149.6 minutes this term. If he carries on at the same rate and plays the same amount of games as he did last season, he will score around 25 goals more – he has never done that before in his career.

The 25-year-old’s goal tally will reach at least 30 if he keeps going at the same rate – that would make this his best-ever goalscoring season by a distance.

Kai Havertz is about to surpass Gabriel Jesus’ Arsenal record

The excitement when Arsenal signed Gabriel Jesus in 2022 was significantly higher compared to when Havertz joined the club last year.

The Brazilian was someone almost every Gooner wanted at the Emirates, while the feeling with Havertz was mostly the opposite.

However, despite joining the club a year later, Havertz has scored the same number of goals for Arsenal as Jesus – 19 in all competitions.

Havertz is on a phenomenal goalscoring run at the Emirates, so we expect him to find the net again against Southampton on Saturday. If he does, he will surpass Jesus despite playing 16 fewer games.

This just shows that Jesus’ long-term future lies away from North London.
