America’s fastest man explains what Kishane Thompson needs to do to beat Noah Lyles

The three-time world champion has offered expert advise to Kishane Thompson on the best way he can beat the reigning Olympic champion Noah Lyles.

American record holder Tyson Gay has explained how Kishane Thompson can beat reigning Olympic champion Noah Lyles in upcoming races.

Speaking on ‘The Powells’ YouTube Channel, the American sprint legend has always been vocal about Noah Lyles being an exceptional sprinter. He explained that for Kishane Thompson to beat the triple-world champion, he has to put in extra gear.

At the Paris Olympic Games, Tyson Gay predicted that if Kishane Thompson got close to Noah Lyles, then there would be trouble and there was trouble indeed. Both Thompson and Lyles crossed the finish line in 9.79 seconds but the latter’s time was faster in milliseconds, thanks to leaning forward at the finish line.

“I don’t know Jamaican order but I believe Kishane has to have a few meters to hold Noah off, in my opinion. I believe if he is in contact, I believe it’s going to be tough,” Tyson Gay said.

The three-time world champion added that for a relay to be successful, the anchor leg must have someone with the zeal to succeed.

Speaking ahead of the relay race at the Paris Olympic Games, Tyson Gay explained that the 100m final would be the one to predict who anchors both teams, the US and Jamaica and predicted a good outing for both nations.

However, things did not turn out as expected with Team USA being disqualified in the final due to faulty baton exchanges and Jamaica failing to make the final.

“I think the 100m final will say a lot but I also believe that a lot of times when people run the anchor leg, it’s like people have a different dawg in them, to go to attack. It’s going to be a good race I believe, as long as everyone sticks around and it’ll be great to see,” Tyson Gay said.
