TONY MOWBRAY

The defender joined Celtic from Middlesbrough for £1 million in November 1991, making close to 100 appearances for The Bhoys. Sadly, during his time with Celtic, his first wife Bernadette passed away from breast cancer.

Mowbray moved to Portman Road in October 1995, where he went to play more than 150 games for Town, helping the Blues secure promotion to the Premier League in the play-off final at Wembley in the last game of his playing career, scoring a header.

BOBBY PETTA

The Dutchman played for Town between 1996 and 1999, making 89 appearances for the Blues and scoring nine goals. Petta was part of the George Burley’s team, who lost three play-off semi-finals in a row.

In the summer of 1999, he moved to Celtic on a free transfer, spending five years in Glasgow. He was part of the side that won the treble in 2001.

DARYL MURPHY

The Irish forward had a loan spell at Ipswich from Sunderland in February 2010, before moving north of the border to join Celtic in a deal worth around £1.5m that summer. He managed just three goals in 23 games for The Hoops.

Murphy was loaned out to Town again, spending the 2011/12 and 2012/13 season at Portman Road, before finally making his move to Suffolk permanent in the summer of 2013.

In total, he netted 67 goals in 225 games during his stints in Suffolk, mostly remembered for his impressive 27 goalscoring campaign of 2014/15.

CAMERON CARTER-VICKERS

The American centre-back had a brief loan spell at Town from Tottenham Hotspur during the second half of the 2017/18 season and made 17 appearances for the Blues.

Carter-Vickers is currently playing the Bhoys, having initially signed for them on loan from Spurs in 2021 before joining on a permanent basis the following summer. He has since helped them win five league titles.

COLIN HEALY

The Irishman started his career at Celtic, helping them win a league and cup double in the 2000/01 season.

Healy spent time at Town between 2009 and 2011, joining from Cork City. In total, he played 29 games for the Blues, scoring twice.

STUART SLATER

The midfielder moved to Celtic from West Ham in a £1.5 million deal in August 1992, but he spent just once season in Scotland.

Slater went on to join Town, reuniting with his former Hammers manager John Lyall for a fee of £750,000 in September 1993, spending three seasons at Portman Road.

He made 88 appearances for the Blues, scoring four goals.

MARK BURCHILL

The Scottish forward is a Celtic academy graduate, making his debut at just 18. He went on to score 24 goals in 53 appearances for them.

Burchill is one of many players on this list that had a brief loan spell in Suffolk, joining the Blues from Celtic in February 2001. He made just seven appearances for Town, scoring once.

Hermann Hreidarsson might think a bit more of him, as he famously jumped into the North Stand following the goal against Bradford City.

GERRY CREANEY

The Scottish forward began his career at Celtic Park, going on to score 53 goals in 144 games for his boyhood club.

On the other hand, Creaney had a one month loan spell at Portman Road from Manchester City during the 1996/97 campaign, bagging one goal in six appearances under George Burley.

DARREN O’DEA

The Irish defender moved to Scotland to join Celtic as a teenager, progressing through their youth ranks. He went on to make more than 50 appearances.

O’Dea helped the Hoops win five trophies before spending time on loan at Town from Celtic during the 2010/11 season, where he featured 25 times for the Blues.

FRANK BROGAN

The Scottish winger started his senior career at Celtic, where he scored the club’s 5,000th league goal, but he is more known for his spell in Suffolk, joining the Blues in the summer of 1964.

Brogan went on to become a fans’ favourite at Portman Road, bagging 69 goals in over 200 games for Town. He was part of the side that won the Second Division title under Bill McGarry in the 1967/68 season.
