Georgia football redshirt junior Gunner Stockon had his worst outing as the Bulldogs’ starting quarterback against Georgia Tech.
Despite the lackluster numbers, Georgia won 16-9.
“I didn’t play as good as I wanted to today,” Stockton said postgame. “I’ve just got to settle in, play ball and have fun.”
Stockton recorded 11 completions on 21 attempts for 70 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception, his lowest total yardage in a single game this season (and since November 2024).
He’d previously thrown for as few as 130 yards against Alabama in September.
Georgia’s offense had one touchdown, which was a 7-yard pass from Stockton to junior wide receiver Zachariah Branch, to put the Dawgs up 10-3 near the end of the second quarter.
“I want to see the tape, but obviously it wasn’t great,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said of the passing game. “There was some drop eight in there, some pressure. He took on trouble batting balls. He’s got to do what he’s coached to do, and that’s the toughest thing. Mike (Bobo) and (Brandon) Streeter got to put him in great situations.
“There’s a couple plays that we think were out there that we didn’t make, and he’ll watch the tape, he’ll grow from it and get better, and so will the rest of the team.”
The three other scores came off the foot of junior Peyton Woodring. The kicker notched three field goals to add nine points to the board (22, 30 and 50 yards, respectively). He was three yards short of his longest field goal of the season (53 yards at Auburn) and five short of his longest field goal of his career (55 yards vs. Clemson, in Mercedes Benz Stadium in 2024).
Woodring was the weapon they needed while other areas were stalling.
“He made the kicks he had to make, right?” Smart said. “He separated the game there and (I’m) really proud of him.”
