The Detroit Lions are still missing two of their top starters in the defensive backfield. But they have a chance to get a boost back there in the form of veteran cornerback D.J. Reed.

Cornerback Terrion Arnold (concussion) and safety Kerby Joseph (knee) have been ruled out. Reed (hamstring) is questionable after logging three limited practices this week. Arnold has missed the last two games and four overall this season. The second-year cornerback has also exited five of the seven games he’s played due to various injuries.

Joseph will now miss his fifth consecutive game. The All-Pro safety has been working through knee injuries dating back to training camp. Joseph has three interceptions in the three games he’s played.

“Doing better. Doing a lot better,” Campbell said of Joseph. “Progressing, progressing.”

Reed’s return would arm the Lions with their top cornerback for the first time since late September. He’s been on injured reserve with a hamstring injury suffered against the Cleveland Browns. The veteran cornerback returned to practice last week, and it sounds like he has a realistic shot to play.

“He looks good,” Campbell said of Reed on Friday. “He looks like he’s back off the injury, he’s running around well. Certainly, any of that’s going to be the more he gets back on the field and just gets his feet back under him, it’s been a minute but yet, he’s played a lot of ball too. And so, it’s not going to take very long. It really is like riding a bike.”

Campbell said he feels confident about linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez and Reed being close to returning this weekend. Veteran pass rusher Marcus Davenport is getting closer, but still isn’t there.

Davenport has been back at practice for the previous two weeks, too. But he won’t make his return from injured reserve against the New York Giants this weekend. If everything goes according to plan, it sounds like Thanksgiving is on the table.

The Lions also ruled out rookie offensive lineman Miles Frazier (knee) and edge defender Josh Paschal (back).

In addition to Reed, they are listing cornerback Khalil Dorsey (wrist), center Graham Glasgow (knee), left tackle Taylor Decker (shoulder), right guard Tate Ratledge (knee), right tackle Penei Sewell (ankle), wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa (oblique) and running back Sione Vaki (ankle) as questionable.

That’s four members of the team’s offensive line banged up entering a quick three-game stretch. Decker and Sewell have continued to play through their injuries. Each received one day of rest from practice this week, logging two limited showings.

Ratledge and Glasgow were limited participants for each practice this week, and should be good to go.

TeSlaa played through his oblique injury last week. The rookie wideout has been at practice in a limited capacity all week, and even saw an increase in snaps in the first game without tight end Sam LaPorta.

Vaki has dealt with a handful of injuries this year, from hamstrings to groins to now ankles. He was questionable last week in Philadelphia, too, logging 19 special teams snaps while playing through the ailment.

The Giants have ruled out pass rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux, tight end Thomas Fidone, cornerback Paulson Adebo and quarterback Jaxson Dart. Defensive back Tae Backs, running back Eric Gray, and defensive back Tyler Nubin are questionable.
