Akani Simbine insists he is stronger, sharper, and ready to make a statement as he prepares to face Noah Lyles, Kishane Thompson, and other top sprinters at the World Championships.

 

World indoor bronze medallist Akani Simbine has made his intentions clear ahead of a face-off against Noah Lyles, Kishane Thompson, Ferdinand Omanyala, Christian Coleman and Co at the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

 

Akani Simbine has been in great form since the start of the season, where he competed indoors for the first time. He claimed his first individual medal at a world indoor championship, crossing the finish line third.

 

The South African then switched to the outdoor season, claiming wins in Botswana, Xiamen, and Keqiao. He then anchored Team South Africa to a gold medal at the World Athletics Relays before dominating the Atlanta City Games.

Akani Simbine then won the Diamond League Meeting in Rabat, finished fifth in London and second at the Gyulai István Memorial. He then finished seventh in Silesia, fourth in Lausanne and second at the Diamond League Meeting final in Zurich.

Speaking after finishing second behind Christian Coleman in Zurich, Akani Simbine expressed his joy heading into the World Championships.

 

He revealed that he has been working around the clock, looking to sharpen every aspect of his race and is ready for what lies ahead of him.

 

Akani Simbine added that everything is working out well as far as the World Championships are concerned, noting that he will not let anything stop him once he steps on the line.

“I’m just happy, happy with finishing my race healthy, coming off a mid-season that was very loaded with training, and now, we are just happy that we are peaking up the speed and everything going into the World Championships,” Akani Simbine said in an interview with Real Talk with Tee.

 

“It’s been a long year, a different year for me, so I’m so happy to know that I’m running fast. This is a different year, a different approach, it’s all new to me and just uncomfortable, but to be able to build so late into the season, that’s a different space for me. But it looks good and we are happy.”

 

Addressing his rivals, Akani Simbine revealed that he has greatly evolved this season and will be out to show the world what he is capable of once he steps on the starting line.

His previous World Championships were quite disappointing, as he false-started and could not go on with his journey.

 

“It’s a different Akani, it’s not the same Akani from before. I’m coming there with confidence, feeling good and happy and ready to take it,” he affirmed.

 

Now, Akani Simbine believes the stage is set for him to make a mark, and as he prepares to face Noah Lyles and Kishane Thompson, among other top sprinters, he has the confidence and speed needed to win a medal.
