BMW has revealed updated aerodynamics for its M Hybrid V8 LMDh ahead of its campaigns in next year’s World Endurance Championship and IMSA SportsCar Championship.
The changes, which include a notably smaller version of the brand’s iconic ‘kidney’ grille, aim to enhance the car’s performance consistency across different circuits and improve cooling efficiency.
BMW M Motorsport boss Andreas Roos stated: “Since entering IMSA in 2023 and the FIA WEC in 2024, we’ve gained a lot of experience with the BMW M Hybrid V8.
“After refining the braking system for this season, it’s now time for a more aerodynamically advanced version of the car.
“These updates are based on the lessons we’ve learned from previous races.
“After the tests we’ve already done, we believe the revisions to the BMW M Hybrid V8 will help us fight more consistently at the front across all tracks, bringing us closer to the top.”
The recent upgrades to the M Hybrid have been developed alongside Dallara Automobili, which provided the core chassis used in the car’s design.
Official images of the revised car testing in camouflage livery were captured at Paul Ricard earlier this month.
It will be seen in limited public view when it joins a group test at Austin right after the upcoming WEC round at the U.S. track on 7 September.
BMW has not clarified whether the aerodynamic updates required using one of the limited evo joker tokens available to WEC Hypercar or IMSA GTP manufacturers.
It previously confirmed that the brake enhancements introduced this season did count as one such joker.
