Charlton Athletic boss Nathan Jones is predicted to enjoy his side welcoming Leicester City to The Valley as one expert makes a bold statement on the Foxes.
Following promotion from League One, Charlton Athletic have got off to a positive start in the 2025/26 Championship season.
An opening day win against Watford was followed up by a respectable 0-0 draw away at Bristol City for Nathan Jones’ side, and now Charlton Athletic will be pitted against Leicester City.
The Foxes, on the other hand, merely scraped past a troubled Sheffield Wednesday side with a late win, whilst they then suffered defeat on the road against Preston North End.
Leicester City under Marti Cifuentes have been far from inspiring so far this season, and that is expected to continue, according to one EFL expert.
Expert predicts Charlton Athletic win vs Leicester City as ‘horrible’ occasion expected for Marti Cifuentes
Under the stewardship of Nathan Jones, Charlton Athletic have become a combative and tough outfit, especially when playing at The Valley.
Jones’ side will surely be full of confidence after their start to the season, and it is expected that their clash with Leicester City will massively favour the Addicks.
Via the Championship Check-In, EFL expert Benjamin Bloom made the claim that Charlton would revel in the opportunity to play against the Foxes, and that a potential upset could be on the cards.
“Nathan Jones is going to love this. He’s going to fancy this, isn’t he?” said Bloom.
“Leicester went to Preston and went under last week. Charlton will make it horrible. I reckon Charlton could win this, couldn’t they?
“You could have a horrible start for Marti Cifuentes. Charlton 1 Leicester 0.”
Home advantage could swing the game in Charlton Athletic’s favour
Charlton Athletic were a force to be reckoned with in the 2024/25 League One season, especially at home, which was one of the leading factors behind their successful campaign.
Last season, Charlton only suffered two defeats on home soil and conceded the third least.
Via the Charlton Athletic website, Nathan Jones spoke about the club’s ability to perform at home, where he said: “The momentum’s built and the numbers have grown with the songs, the atmosphere, the adrenaline and the energy that they’ve brought. It’s coincided with the team being in a better place, so it’s the chicken and egg scenario.
“They’ve been superb – they’ve travelled in their numbers and really got on board with everything. We’re asking them for, at the moment, one more big effort because they can be vital and a packed, singing, energetic Valley can be a wonderful place to play if you’re a home player.”
Jones also noted last season that winning at The Valley was ‘something we’ve been very good at’, and he will be hoping for a repeat of that this season.
