Jacob Greaves played with Ipswich Town team-mate Jaden Philogene at Hull City
Ipswich Town defender Jacob Greaves has described team-mate Jaden Philogene as an ‘unbelievable talent’, with the winger looking to kick on after a stop-start campaign in the Premier League.
The 23-year-old re-joined Aston Villa from Hull City off the back of a strong 2023/24 Championship campaign, where he notched 12 goals and six assists.
His time at Villa Park didn’t work out, and while his January move to Town came with a lot of excitement, he struggled to settle before picking up an MCL injury in April.
Greaves played with Philogene at Hull and knows what he is capable of in the second tier. The centre-back believes that he has what it takes to be a crucial player this season, having returned from injury on Sunday with an impressive display against Southampton.
“On his day, he’s probably one of the best wingers in the Championship,” Greaves said.
“When he hit the flow when he was at Hull, he was so hard to stop. You’ll get teams who will double up on him.
“It’s the same with [Jack] Clarkey as well. You look at him the other night against Bromley, it probably wasn’t one of his best games, he’ll say that, but he’s got two or three players on him.
“It creates space where other people can use it to come into the game a bit more.
“I think Jaden is an unbelievable talent. To have him fit and firing back in the Championship will be massive for the team.
“Likewise, it will be with all the front players. Hopefully they can cause carnage this season, get goals, assists and help us.”
