Detroit — Early in the third quarter of Saturday’s preseason loss against the Miami Dolphins, Detroit Lions rookie Ahmed Hassanein exited with an apparent upper-body injury.
Hassanein, selected in the sixth round of April’s draft, appeared to be favoring his right side, near his chest and shoulder. The first-year defensive end was engaged with an offensive lineman before another came over to double-team him, flipping him in the process.

The blue medical tent was popped up, but Hassanein, after being slow to get up, walked with trainers to the locker room.
Asked if there was an update on Hassanein after the game, Lions coach Dan Campbell said, “Not really. He is, out of the (injuries) we had today, he might be the one that could be a minute. It could be a little bit. Everyone else, I think we got out OK.”
Hassanein posted one pressure apiece in Detroit’s first two preseason games, and he notched three run stops against the Los Angeles Chargers in the Hall of Fame Game on July 31. He got rolled up on in practice Monday, but Campbell called it “just a scare.” He was back at Wednesday’s joint practice with the Dolphins.
