Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Misses Podium, Kishane Thompson Dominates as Stars Impress in Budapest

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Mondo Duplantis, Shericka Jackson, and Kishane Thompson are some of the stars who descended on the track at the Gyulai István Memorial, as preparations gather pace for the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan, in September.

Competing in the men’s pole vault, Mondo Duplantis was impressive as he claimed the win in a world record, clearing 6.29 m. Emmanouil Karalis and Kurtis Marschall finished second and third after clearing 6.02 m and 5.82 m.

Women’s 100m: Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Finishes Fourth

The hotly contested women’s 100m saw Africa’s fastest woman, Marie Josée Ta Lou-Smith, claim the win in 10.97 seconds, beating the Jamaican trio of Tina Clayton, Shericka Jackson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.

Tina Clayton and Shericka Jackson came in second and third in respective times of 10.99 and 11.00 as 10-time world champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce missed the podium, coming in fourth in 11.07 seconds.

Men’s 100m: Kishane Thompson Dominates

Olympic 100m silver medallist Kishane Thompson dominated the men’s 100m, dipping under 10 seconds yet again as he clocked 9.95 seconds.

Ghanaian Abdul-Rasheed Saminu came in second in 10.01 seconds, with South Africa’s Akani Simbine, in his second defeat of the 100m of the season, sealed the podium in 10.01.

Another Jamaican, Ackeem Blake, finished fourth in 10.04 seconds as Africa’s fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala, faded to eighth place in 10.26.

Men’s and Women’s Hurdles: Cordell Tinch and Nadine Visser Reign Supreme

The men’s 110m hurdles saw American Cordell Tinch continue his winning ways, claiming the win in 13.20 seconds ahead of former Olympic champion Hansle Parchment, who clocked a season’s best time of 13.24. Another American, Eric Edwards, finished third in a time of 13.26.

In the women’s 100m hurdles, Dutch woman Nadine Visser crossed the finish line first in a season’s best time of 12.43, ahead of the American duo of Alia Armstrong and Christina Clemons, who clocked 12.59 and 12.74.

Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent finished fourth in 12.85 seconds ahead of Amoi Brown, another Jamaican who clocked 12.88.

Women’s 400m: Mercy Oketch Makes a Statement

Dutch woman Lieke Klaver won the women’s 400m in 50.11 seconds as Kenya’s Mercy Oketch finished second in 50.69. American Bailey Lear finished third in 50.94.

In the women’s 400m hurdles, Femke Bol was dominant yet again, clocking 52.24 seconds as Naomi Van Den Broeck and Jasmine Jones finished second and third in the race.
