Alabama redshirt junior quarterback Jalen Milroe was named the 35th recipient of the William V. Campbell Trophy on Tuesday. The prestigious award, given by the National Football Foundation, is presented to the college player who excels in academics, community service, and on-field performance, often referred to as the “Academic Heisman.”
Milroe was selected from 16 finalists and became the second player in Alabama history to win the award, following former offensive lineman Barrett Jones, who claimed the honor in 2012. As part of the award, he will receive a $25,000 postgraduate scholarship from the NFF along with the coveted trophy.
A two-time team captain, Milroe has started 26 games, participated in two College Football Playoff appearances, and earned two Southeastern Conference championships. He has accumulated 77 total touchdowns in his career, with 44 passing and 33 rushing, establishing himself as one of college football’s most versatile players.
Milroe graduated cum laude in December 2023 with a 3.52 GPA and will complete his master’s degree in sport management this December. He has been a repeated member of the President’s List and Dean’s List and has earned spots on the SEC Academic Honor Roll three times.
In addition to his athletic achievements, Milroe is a dedicated volunteer, contributing to community service efforts in both Tuscaloosa and his hometown of Katy, Texas. He also represented the University of Alabama at the joint meeting of the SEC Student-Athlete Leadership Council and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
