The No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs were scheduled to take on the No. 2 Texas Longhorns at Saturday’s SEC Championship Game in Atlanta with the league title and College Football Playoff positioning on the line.
Georgia will turn to second-year starter Carson Beck for the matchup against star QB Quinn Ewers and the Longhorns.
Beck has thrown for nearly 3,500 yards this season with 28 touchdowns against 12 interceptions heading into the game.
On Saturday, Beck’s hidden motivation for the big game was revealed by ESPN’s Holly Rowe amid a festive atmosphere in A-Town.
“You know for Georgia, I think it’s really important, (Beck) says this is like a home game for them, they have been here (before),” Rowe said.
“But (Beck) said he remembers his first loss as a starter was in the SEC title game last year, he says he has a vivid memory of walking off this field looking at this scoreboard.
“I will never forget that feeling and I never want to feel it again,” Rowe said Beck told her.
Beck threw for 243 yards in last year’s 27-24 title game loss to Jalen Milroe and the Crimson Tide. He did not throw for an interception or a touchdown, and may have to do more to knock off Ewers and coach Steve Sarkisian’s high octane Longhorns, who made it to the College Football Playoff last season before falling to national runner-up Washington.
“It’s Carson beck’s fourth time in this championship game,” Rowe added. “He says, I have no quit in me.”
