Nottingham Forest’s interest in signing ‘fantastic’ player confirmed after phone-call but there’s an issue

It is now just over one week until Nottingham Forest kick off their 2024/25 campaign in the Premier League.

Nuno Espirito Santo has to be delighted with how Forest‘s summer has panned out so far with six new additions.

There is one final friendly for the Reds on Thursday night against Olympiacos before full focus will then shift to the start of the new season.

A visit from Bournemouth next weekend will see Forest get their Premier League season underway with the Reds able to properly show off their summer additions.

But there could still be time to get in some further signings before the Cherries visit the City Ground.

And there is one player who Forest have now made contact over but a deal is not going to be easy to get over the line ahead of the deadline at the end of the month.

Nuno Espirito Santo, Nottingham Forest head coach, is getting the substitutes ready during the Pre-season Friendly match between Nottingham Forest …

Nottingham Forest have now called about ‘fantastic’ player

In what has been a bit of a strange summer transfer window for most Premier League sides, Forest have excelled.

Evangelos Marinakis has certainly been a busy man having sanctioned plenty of comings and going at Forest.

The Reds went into the summer knowing they’d be battling against PSR but that has not stopped them from providing Nuno with what he needs to strengthen his options.

And there could be still be time for Forest to add their biggest signing of the summer if they are able to pull off one specific deal.

According to journalist Martijn Krabbendam, Forest have now called about the possibility of signing Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez.

However, the journalist has admitted that it is not expected to be an easy deal for the Reds to pull off this summer.

“There is slight interest in Gimenez, Nottingham Forest did call,” he said on the Dick Voormekaar Podcast.

“I can’t imagine Gimenez would like that, unless the amount is huge.”

“There is talk that he will and can still go. Gimenez also has to be sold at some point. And they already have Ueda and Carranza. So they have all those strikers. “

Forest must weigh up risk of signing Santiago Gimenez

The Mexico international provided a staggering return of 23 goals and six assists in the Dutch top flight alone.

And the ‘fantastic‘ striker has already made an electric start to the new season having scored twice in the Johan Cruijff Schaal against PSV Eindhoven.

However, it is about weighing up the risk and reward after the striker endured a poor second half of the 2023/24 campaign.

Feyenoord have never landed more than €30m (£24.5m) for a player in their history and even that only came earlier this summer with Mats Wieffer.

So the definition of ‘enormous’ may have to be taken into account considering the Dutch side may not be able to prize out a club record sale from Forest after Gimenez’s disappointing second half of last season.
