Georgia Bulldogs tight end Lawson Luckie shared how quarterback Gunner Stockton transforms for Saturdays. Stockton is a polite, easygoing guy during the week, but he has a different personality for football games.
On the road against Tennessee, Luckie revealed that Stockton was quick to correct him after missing a play call.
“When I think about Gunner (Stockton) on like a normal day to like what everyone sees on game days,” Luckie said with a smile. “(I think about) When we were in the huddle and I read the wristband wrong and (Gunner Stockton) jumped up and started punching me in the head and head butting me in the huddle and I was like… ‘Gunner can flip the switch on game day.'”
Stockton’s assertive leadership came up big for Georgia in the Bulldogs’ first road game of the season. He crafted a clutch fourth quarter drive to help UGA win at Tennessee in overtime, which was Stockton’s first ever road start.
Over the offseason and during the regular season, Stockton earned respect from his teammates for his toughness. He constantly took big hits including in Georgia’s SEC championship win over Alabama, but he always managed to bounce back up. Stockton’s primary concern is winning and not his statistics or anything flashy like that.
His humble attitude is reflected in the car he drives, which is a 1984 Ford F150 that his grandfather used to have. Stockton considers it to be the family truck that he grew up riding in.
Stockton’s next opportunity to play for Georgia will be in the College Football Playoff. The Bulldogs will play in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1 against Ole Miss or Tulane.
