Jannik Vestergaard injured his ankle during Leicester City’s 2-0 win over Cheltenham
Leicester City will be sweating on the results of Jannik Vestergaard’s ankle assessment after the defender hobbled out of Saturday’s FA Cup win over Cheltenham.
Vestergaard, making his first City start since recovering from a head injury he suffered at QPR last month, was substituted early into the second half at the EV Charger Points Stadium.
On a pitch that was becoming increasingly bobbly as the afternoon played out, Vestergaard twisted his ankle, leading to swelling.
“He twisted his ankle,” Cifuentes said on Vestergaard after the 2-0 win. “It was swollen quite quickly. We’re going to make some tests. Hopefully it’s not a big one.”
Vestergaard was one of eight changes to the starting line-up for the match, but there were only two players who dropped out of the squad completely.
One of those was Jakub Stolarczyk, but he still travelled to Cheltenham, while star winger Abdul Fatawu was the other.
Cifuentes offered assurances that the Ghanaian is not at risk of missing the clash with Coventry. He was just afforded a break having started every Championship game this season.
“It’s just rest,” Cifuentes said. “The last couple of games he’s felt some small niggles. He was very tired after the last game and we wanted to take care of him. It’s nothing else, he’s completely fine.”
