Unbearable’… Arsenal fans call for Emirates change after Wolves, I was there – they are right

Arsenal returned to the Emirates Stadium for competitive action for their opening game of the new Premier League season, and they beat Wolves 2-0.

Although it was not the most comfortable victory, with Gary O’Neil’s side causing Arsenal problems, fans were happy with the win and clean sheet to begin what they hope will be a successful campaign.

The Emirates Stadium was packed to welcome Mikel Arteta’s side back for the first competitive game since May 19th, when they beat Everton on the final day of last season but still fell short of the Premier League title.

There have been a few noticeable changes for the match-going supporters at the Emirates, and one in particular was very unpopular. For years, the PA and sound system at the stadium was often unclear or inaudible, but Arsenal have now over-corrected this issue.

Arsenal fans complain about volume of PA system during Wolves game

I was in the lower tier at the Emirates to see Arsenal beat Wolves, but something had clearly changed with the sound system, which was significantly louder than before.

In the build-up to the game, and at half-time and full-time, the music blared out over the speakers was abnormally loud. This was almost deafening for fans in the lower tier of the stadium, and made both conversation and chanting difficult.

Fans have now taken to X to express their annoyance at this new development, which proved an annoyance and even painful to some fans in the ground.

“I thought my hearing had gone wild. Lower tier deafening,” a fan posted on X.

“My ears are terrible and even I was struggling, must have been unbearable for others,” another fan responded.

“Couldn’t hear the person next to me and neither could I see the graphics on the screen for the first time,” a fan complained, also highlighting the changed graphics on the in-stadium screens.

“Much louder than last year and impossible to even hear person next to you,” a fan bemoaned.

“It was ridiculously high. The only time to chat was during or after the match,” another fan highlighted.

Arsenal need to resolve sound system issues

The increased volume of the speaker systems was particularly noticeable before the game and at half-time, and this issue needs to be resolved quickly.

I went inside to the concourse at half-time because the volume was simply too loud, and speaking to others sat near me was a much more difficult task than before.

It does appear that fans in the lower tier were more affected than in the upper tier, but it is an issue which reduced the quality of the match-going experience, aside from anything that happened in the game, and fans will hope for an improvement in the next home game against Brighton.
