Two transfers Cifuentes wants as Leicester boss declares ‘we need numbers’

The latest Leicester City transfer news as

Marti Cifuentes wants reinforcements in the striker and attacking midfield positionsLeicester City’s need for attacking reinforcements has grown with manager Marti Cifuentes keen to bring in a number 10 following confirmation of Aaron Ramsey’s injury.

City were already in pursuit of a striker, with the hunt for a new number nine restarting following the breakdown of a deal for Michail Antonio.

But Cifuentes is eager for an option in attacking midfield too. With Ramsey unlikely to play again until at least the end of February following the recurrence of a hamstring injury, Bobby De Cordova-Reid is City’s only out-and-out option there.

Jordan James and Louis Page can play in the role if needed but Cifuentes sees them as box-to-box players primarily.

“It’s something we’re looking at. We’ll see if we can get the right player for what we want.

“Every manager in the world would tell you they want however many signings on January 1. The reality is that the market works in a certain way.

“When you check not only in England but also everywhere else, it’s been so far quite quiet. There’s not a lot of movement. Usually that’s the case in January.

“In addition, you need to be careful in January because it’s not an easy window to find the right target, to find the right player.

“More than a striker, we need some more numbers, some more help up front, because we’ve lost one number 10, and one number nine, so that’s something we want to address.

“I would like to have someone days ago, but we need to find the right player.

“I’m in constant communication with the club. The club know my thoughts. It’s easy to see we need some help in some parts. I’m sure we’ll try our best, together with the club, to bring in this help.”

Even with Carranza’s loan cut short, City do have enough players up front, with Jordan Ayew and Patson Daka to choose from, and with Silko Thomas able to fill in.

But goals have been a problem. Ayew has scored three open-play goals and two penalties this season, while Daka and Thomas have one goal each to their name.
