The Washington Commanders’ list of opponents for the 2025 season.

The NFL season is over, and the playoff field has been set. The Washington Commanders finished the regular season with a 12-5 record, securing the 6th seed in the NFC. This positions them to face either the Los Angeles Rams or the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Super Wildcard Weekend.

NFL schedules are determined each year through a rotating schedule system, with most teams’ opponents already set years in advance, except for three teams. The scheduling formula, implemented in 2002, ensures that teams face each other on a rotating basis.

The current scheduling system means each team plays 17 games as follows:

Home and away games against its three division rivals (six games).

Four games against teams from another division within the same conference, on a rotating three-year basis.

Four games against teams from a division in the opposing conference, on a rotating four-year cycle.

Three additional games, based on the prior season’s standings. These matchups involve first-place teams against other first-place teams from different divisions within the conference, plus one opponent from the other conference. The same applies for second, third, and fourth-place teams.

In 2025, Washington will play teams from the NFC North and AFC West divisions. Having finished in second place in their own division, they will face the second-place teams from the NFC West (Seattle Seahawks), AFC East (Miami Dolphins), and NFC South (Atlanta Falcons). Like other NFC teams, Washington will have 9 road games and 8 home games in 2025.
