Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf was seen punching a Detroit Lions fan in the face during the Week 16 clash.

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf (4) scores a touchdown in the third quarter against the Miami Dolphins at Acrisure Stadium.

While the Pittsburgh Steelers are trying to advance to a 9-6 record on Sunday against the Detroit Lions, DK Metcalf was seen getting into it with a fan on the sidelines. It’s not entirely clear what led to the altercation, but it ended with Metcalf throwing a punch at the fan.

The 28-year-old wide receiver threw a strike at a Lions fan in the stands after the two seemingly exchanged words. Metcalf walked away from the stands immediately and stood on the sideline near the field after the incident.

As of this publishing, DK Metcalf has not been given a punishment by the officials. With the Steelers and Lions going into halftime, the league may look into the situation and inform the referees about the incident. But based on the video shown above and floating around social media, a punishment could be coming for Metcalf. However, that is yet to be determined at this time.

Through two quarters of play, the two-time Pro Bowler has only accumulated one catch for five yards. It’s been a frustrating day for Metcalf, and perhaps those frustrations boiled over with that Lions fan.

In all, it’s been a tough season for DK Metcalf in general during his first year with the Steelers. He entered the Week 16 matchup with 808 receiving yards and six touchdowns. His 57.7 yards per game average is the third-lowest in his career. He is on pace for about 980 receiving yards on the season, which would mark the fourth time in his seven-year career that he fails to surpass the 1,000-yard mark.
