Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna is said to be of interest to Rangers.
Scottish giants Rangers are said to be interested in Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna for their current managerial vacancy.
The Glasgow club recently sacked Russell Martin after just 17 games in charge. His tenure included a 9-1 aggregate thrashing at the hands of Club Brugge in the Champions League play-offs, while one league win from seven leaves them 11 points adrift of SPL leaders Hearts.
Ranger Review reports that Steven Gerrard turned down the chance to return to Ibrox last weekend and that both Graham Potter, recently sacked by West Ham, and Gary O’Neil, axed by Wolves last December, are not contenders.
The Herald states that Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl has ‘given an impressive presentation’, ex-Young Boys boss Raphael Wicky is ‘a potential option’, while Ralph Hasenhuttl (sacked by Wolfsburg in May), Michael Carrick (sacked by Middlesbrough in June) and McKenna ‘have also been discussed’.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been approached, according to his former Manchester United team-mate Paul Scholes. Kevin Muscat, in charge of Chinese Super League outfit Shanghai Port, is a ‘serious option’ according to The Scottish Sun, while the Glasgow Times have linked Slaven Bilic.
Sacking season is upon us and, as we’ve become accustomed to, Kieran McKenna’s name is going to be linked with a lot of clubs.
Would Rangers turn his head? In my humble opinion – not a chance. Don’t get me wrong, they’re a huge club, but they’ve not got the required pulling power right now. The fact that recent Premier League managers who are currently unemployed don’t fancy it says a lot.
McKenna stayed in Suffolk when the likes of Crystal Palace, Brighton and Chelsea came calling. He is paid handsomely at Ipswich and has a sizeable buy-out clause. He was well backed in the recent summer transfer window and has had a big say in the new multi-million pound training ground currently under construction.
It’s going to take a lot to lure him away. There will come a point in time when he makes a calculated next step, but right now he’ll feel like there is plenty more left in this ambitious Ipswich project.
