Romain Esse of Coventry City gets past Luke Thomas of Leicester Marc Albrighton insists Leicester City have not done enough to address their biggest problem in what has been a frustrating Championship season so far.
The former winger, who made more than 300 appearances over ten years with the Foxes, has pointed to the fact Marti Cifuentes’ team have not kept a clean sheet in nearly half a season.
Only Sheffield Wednesday have conceded more than the 40 goals shipped so far this term, with Cifuentes’ defence now 21 games without preventing the opposition from scoring.
While many left the CBS Arena feeling a failure to take their chances to convert good first half chances had cost City, Albrighton pointed to the poor defending that allowed Coventry to come from 1-0 down to win 2-1.
“Some of the defending, especially in the second half, was really questionable, balls over the top, simple, simple balls for centre halves to deal with and Coventry managing to get chances from it.
“I think that’s the major concern, but I think the performance, more or less typified the season that Leicester have had.”
It is a failing Albrighton believes will cost City any hope of finishing in the play-offs. “I do think Leicester are a team this season that you’re sort of waiting for them to kick into gear, waiting for them to put that full performance in front of you.
“It’s just how they’re playing and the performances that they’re putting in, frustrating performances.
“They could have had two or three in the first half and they don’t put the game to bed and defensively they’re not good enough in the second half and go on and lose the game.
“There’s been too much of that this season and in my opinion that’s what will hold them back this season.”
