Newcastle United beat 10-man Burnley 2-1 in the Premier League at St James’ Park – here are the player ratings from the match.
Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon celebrates his goal.
Eddie Howe made six changes from the side that drew 2-2 with Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday night, with Anthony Gordon, Anthony Elanga, Jacob Ramsey, Joe Willock, Bruno Guimaraes and Fabian Schar all coming into the side.
Yoane Wissa was named on the bench for the first time since his £55million arrival from Brentford while Sandro Tonali was passed fit enough to make the bench after taking a knock against Spurs.
The Magpies had not lost at St James’ Park since a 2-1 defeat to Arsenal in September and were up against a Burnley side who started the day 19th in the table.
Newcastle took the lead just after the half-hour mark through Bruno Guimaraes, who scored his fifth goal of the season and arguably the best so far as he found the net directly from a corner.
Things went from bad to worse for Burnley as Lucas Pires was shown a straight red card for a last-man foul on Anthony Elanga just before half-time.
Then on the stroke of half-time, Newcastle were awarded a penalty following a handball by Lesley Ugochukwu.
Anthony Gordon stepped up and converted his sixth goal of the season in all competitions, four of which have come from the penalty spot.
The second half was mostly a non-contest until Burnley won a stoppage-time penalty after Jacob Ramsey handballed inside the area. Zian Flemming converted from the spot as the game finished 2-1.
Aaron Ramsdale – 6
Overpowered when crosses were put near him into the box early on but rarely tested after that. Came close to saving Flemming’s penalty.
Tino Livramento – 6
Caught dwelling on the ball in a dangerous area in the opening minutes but Ramsdale was able to collect. Grew into the game after a sub-par start.
Fabian Schar – 5
Had a shaky start to the game as Burnley applied the early pressure. Came close to making it 2-0 but was denied by Dubravka. Some clumsy challenges in the second half.
Malick Thiaw – 7
Allowed Burnley some space in and around the box early on but didn’t put a foot wrong afterwards.
Dan Burn – 6
Deployed at left-back. Took a knock early on. Slow and steady before his withdrawal.

Bruno Guimaraes – 8
Had a shot from distance that was saved by Dubravka but beat his former teammate directly from a corner, which looked intentional. Brought some magic to an otherwise average display in the first half. Forced a good save from Dubravka in the second.
Joe Willock – 8
Good pressure created an opportunity for Newcastle after 11 minutes. Brought real energy to a game that often lacked it. Faded in the second half before being taken off.
Jacob Ramsey – 5
The ball dropped to him in a good position but a heavy touch saw the chance go begging. Curled over from the edge of the box in the second half. Conceded a penalty in stoppage time. Didn’t make the most of his chance, an average display.
Anthony Elanga – 7
Had a shot from distance comfortably saved by Dubravka. Got into some good areas and forced a foul from Lucas Pires as Burnley went down to 10 men. Well involved, put a couple of good crosses in and curled just wide of the left post from the edge of the box. Just lacked conviction at times.
Anthony Gordon – 8
Saw a left-footed effort hit back off the post. Posed a threat with his pace and directness and scored from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time. Hit the bar in the second half.
Nick Woltemade – 6
Saw an early shot well blocked. Brought his teammates into the game before being taken off.

On for Woltemade 74: On for his long-awaited Newcastle United debut. Received a loud reception from the home fans as he entered the pitch. Looked to get involved and had a couple of smart touches.
