Nottingham Forest make shock move to re-sign player who failed to convince Nuno Espirito Sant

Nottingham Forest are still in the market for new players and in large the players linked with moves to the club have excited the fan base.

However, that has changed this afternoon.

Very few links have been met with such negativity this summer and that has made a refreshing change when scrolling through the social media platforms.

Now, however, it would appear that Forest are going to try and make a move that wouldn’t be overly popular with a lot of supporters.

Nuno Espirito Santo the head coach / manager of Nottingham Forest during the pre-season friendly match between Nottingham Forest and Villarreal at …

Nottingham Forest make bid to re-sign loan player

Well, this is a somewhat bizarre link and it’s been some time coming this summer but this is one that doesn’t make a deal of sense.

According to TyC Sports journalist, Gaston Edul, Forest are now going to submit an offer to sign Gonzalo Montiel on a permanent basis.

The man who has won the World Cup and Copa America with Argentina is in limbo at the moment and is desperate for a move away from Sevilla.

Montiel is wanted off of the balance sheet with his current club and their desire to sell could allow him to move on the cheap this summer.

However, his time at Forest saw him blow hot and cold, with fan perception of this particular piece of news pretty negative.

At 27 the player is at a decent age and if the price is right perhaps this wouldn’t be the worst deal in the world.

Montiel played in big wins over Newcastle and Manchester United last season but he did fail to truly win over Nuno Espirito Santo.

In total, the player made 19 appearances for Forest in all competitions and registered two assists.

His game time came extremely sporadically, however, and as a result, his performances were crippled by a number of inconsistencies.

Forest would be wise to move on from Montiel

There won’t be many clubs in Europe that would turn their news up at a man who made 32 appearances for the reigning world champions – but that is where we’re at with Forest!

Montiel was okay for the Reds without being spectacular and it’s fair to say that this would be an underwhelming addition.

However, if landing Montiel on the cheap allowed Forest to go all-out attack for a big-money striker then surely this is a deal that might be worth doing.

Neco Williams has been linked with a move to Atalanta and that would see Forest in need of a right-back.

Montiel might be the player with a little bit of experience to bring the best out of Eric da Silva Moreira.

This does feel as though it’s a lot of agent talk and before losing their heads, Forest fans would be wise not to take every link as gospel at this stage.
