After suffering your biggest loss of the year, how do you react? By winning your biggest Premier League title in almost thirty-four years.
High-flying Nottingham Forest had the perfect response to last weekend’s 5-0 loss at Bournemouth on Saturday, sweeping to a 7-0 victory against Brighton.
Nuno Espirito Santo made a brilliant move by switching to a back three, which was intended to give his offensive players more freedom.
His team put on a vicious attacking show for the City Ground’s home crowd, with Chris Wood and Anthony Elanga playing key roles.
With a well-earned treble, Wood, who had nine league goals versus Brighton before to Saturday, increased his 2024–25 league total to 17.
The only player to score more is Stan Collymore (22 in 1994–95).
Elanga completed a hat-trick of assists in the second half by tying up Wood after a frantic run, after having set up Wood’s first goal of the game before the interval and Morgan Gibbs-White’s header.
Brighton provided many assists to the home team, including Lewis Dunk’s own goal in the first, Tariq Lamptey’s penalty after Gibbs-White’s careless foul, and goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen’s pass to Jota Silva in Forest’s eighth.
However, a brutal Forest performance was too great to ignore, as Nuno’s squad recorded their largest league victory since crushing Chelsea 7-0 in the top flight in April 1991.
