PARCHMENT, MI –– Brennan Davis is quick to point it out: most people put other Southwest Michigan schools before Parchment in general comparisons.
But a Detroit Lions star put the Panthers first on Saturday.
Jameson Williams, the Lions’ budding fourth-year star wide receiver, helped place the spotlight on Parchment by hosting a youth football camp at the Panthers’ high school –– empowering the next generation of Southwest Michigan athletes while giving back to the community.
Nearly 300 participants –– ages six to 16 –– from the Kalamazoo-area basked in an unforgettable experience, learning valuable football knowledge and hands-on instruction from one of the most electrifying young talents in the NFL.

“We’ve never got an opportunity like this at Parchment since I’ve been here,” said Davis, Parchment’s fourth-year athletic director. “This is just awesome for the Parchment community because a lot of people don’t even know where our school is at.
Sometimes we get overshadowed by some of the bigger schools in the area, but we really wanted to show that we could put on a good camp and be a good host.
“I think we accomplished that. It was packed.”
The camp was sponsored by FlexWork Sports Management, a full-service sports management and marketing company with expertise in athlete management.

Davis said FlexWork crews worked with Parchment football staff to engage participants in several activities –– including lectures, fundamental skill stations, contests and awards.
“We were just excited to be contacted and selected to host,” Davis said. “Hopefully all the people that came to Parchment were impressed with our participation in the camp and took something from it.”
Davis noted that Williams often played quarterback at the camp’s stations, while also stopping to sign autographs, take pictures and chat with a lot of the participants.
“He looked like a kid out there celebrating with all of them (kids),” Davis said. “He was very personable with them and still went out of his way to sign stuff despite being pulled in so many different directions.”
Each camp participant received a team photo with Williams, a limited-edition football camp T-shirt and take-home items from the event sponsors.
According to a story done by News Channel 3, this was roughly Williams’ tenth camp in three years.
The former Alabama Crimson Tide wideout is coming off his best season of his NFL career, where he finished with 1,001 receiving yards and seven touchdowns and helped the Lions set franchise marks in season wins (15) and their first-ever No. 1 seed in the NFC.
As Lions training camp approaches, Williams has been spoken about in high regard from the team’s coaching staff –– most notably Lions coach Dan Campbell saying, “we expect (Williams) to have a huge season.”
