Leicester City have just landed key Davis Keillor-Dunn transfer advantage for Russell Martin

Davis Keillor-Dunn is a forward reportedly on Leicester City’s radar this summer and he could reunite with a manager that got the best out of him

Conor Hourihane’s appointment as Russell Martin’s assistant manager at Leicester City brings a wealth of experience and a new face in the dug-out – but it also hands them the key to their first arrival.

Davis Keillor-Dunn is one of many players that have been linked with a move to LE2 this summer. The centre-forward, who can play as a second striker, joined Wrexham in January from Barnsley but the 28-year-old failed to start a single match in the second half of the season and played just six times.

This summer, it’s been reported that Leicester and Sheffield Wednesday are interested in bringing him back to League One.

Since moving to England from Ross County, Keillor-Dunn has been a regular face on the scoresheet in the English Football League. He scored 25 goals in two seasons for Oldham before netting an impressive 22 for Mansfield Town.

He moved to Barnsley in the summer of 2024 and adjusted to life in the third tier easily. 18 goals in his debut campaign at Oakwell was followed by 13 in the first half of last term before he moved to Wrexham.

At the same time as his arrival two years ago, Hourihane returned to the club as player-coach before taking over as head coach 12 months later. Under Hourihane, Keillor-Dunn was Barnsley’s best player before departing.

“He’s a big part and a big vocal point of what we do,” Hourihane said of the striker in November. “He connects the game really, really well for us. He’s different to some number nine’s at this level where he comes to feet, drops in and connects the game well.

“What’s important then is to have runners going the other way so he gets more time on the ball. We’re playing to his strengths. I had a conversation with him probably a month ago saying, ‘look, you’re going to be the number nine’. That was really important for him to have that clarity.

“Since then he’s pretty much scored in every game. He’s a massive player for us.”

City are in desperate need for a new striker this summer after failing to prepare a replacement for Jamie Vardy. The striker left the club 12 months ago but Patson Daka and Jordan Ayew both failed to fulfil the requirements with just six goals each.

Plymouth’s Lorent Tolaj has been linked with a move but a move for Keillor-Dunn seems more likely due to his circumstances at Wrexham. The Red Dragons have a number of centre-forward options ahead of him at the moment and his lack of game time last term hints at where he sits in the pecking order.

Fortunately, Leicester now have a secret weapon in their pursuit and there’s plenty of reasons why Hourihane’s arrival could be a major advantage in Keillor-Dunn being Martin’s new striker.
