Three athletes, Tebogo, Colleb Kebinatshipi, and Bayapo Ndori, have withdrawn from this weekend’s World Relays, which will take place in Guangzhou, China, for personal reasons, the Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) announced Monday night. The athletes reportedly withdrew due to a pay issue.
Tebogo said in a statement this evening that the choice was not made lightly. “I accept the Botswana Athletics Association’s formal announcement that I will not be competing in the men’s 4×400-meter relay at the 2025 World Athletics Relays. I want to make it clear that I did not make the choice to withdraw lightly or without giving it careful thought and consulting with the appropriate parties. As previously mentioned, a personal choice was made that was in line with my long-term objectives as a professional athlete and in the best interests of all parties,” Tebogo added. “I’m still totally dedicated to my nation, the squad, and the growth of sports in Botswana. As always, I’m still pleased torepresent Botswana internationally and exhort the country to support the team with the same fervor and determination that characterizes Batswana,” he continued. To his supporters and interested parties, the famous athlete expressed regret “for missing the opportunity to compete at the World Relays.” “I am incredibly appreciative of your understanding, and your unwavering support means the world to me,” he stated. Rest assured that I will not be changing my schedule for the season.
