Ipswich Town manager Gary O’Neil has spoken positively about new striker Emersonn as the Brazilian prepares for his first Premier League campaign with the club. The 21-year-old forward arrived at Portman Road from French side Toulouse in a club-record transfer, becoming the first Brazilian player to represent Ipswich Town.

Emersonn’s arrival represents a major statement of intent from Ipswich as they prepare for their return to England’s top flight. The striker signed a five-year contract after Ipswich agreed a deal understood to be worth £24 million plus add-ons, surpassing the previous club records for Omari Hutchinson and Jaden Philogene.

For O’Neil, Emersonn is not simply an expensive signing but a young player with significant potential. Toulouse then signed him in 2025, giving him the opportunity to establish himself in European football. During his first Ligue 1 campaign, he made a valuable contribution as Toulouse finished ninth, scoring six goals in 28 league appearances, including starts and substitute appearances.

The 21-year-old is also viewed as a striker who can offer more than simply goals. Reports on his playing style have highlighted his strength, aerial ability and willingness to drop deeper to link play. Those qualities could make him particularly useful to O’Neil as Ipswich look for different ways to attack Premier League opponents.

Emersonn himself has made it clear that he is highly motivated by the opportunity. Upon signing, he said that playing in the Premier League had always been a dream and that he believed he had chosen the perfect club to make that dream a reality. He also promised to give everything for the team whenever he plays.

That attitude will be welcomed by O’Neil, who is building a squad capable of competing at the highest level.
