If supporters of Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town are not quite sure what to expect in the final few days of the transfer window, spare a thought for those players with their futures up in the air and stuck in limbo.
While EFL Analysis confirmed a week ago that Ipswich are closing in on Sindre Walle Egeli, the FC Nordsjaelland forward acknowledges that there is little he can do but wait until both clubs shake hands.
So, with only four days left before the window slams shut on Ipswich Town fingers, Walle Egeli, Furlong and co are sitting with their bags half-packed waiting for a phone call which may or may not arrive.
Ditto Sebastian Caceres.
But by his own admission, Club America’s Uruguayan centre-half has absolutely no idea whether he will be in East Anglia or Mexico this time next week.

Sebastian Caceres has no idea whether Ipswich Town transfer will happen
Fabrizio Romano reported on August 22nd that Ipswich had submitted a bid for Sebastian Caceres. An offer which, to quote Mediotempo, ‘excited’ the Copa America bronze-medal winner.
Now, some welcome details have belatedly emerged regarding the finances involved in a potential deal.
Club America president Santiago Banos confirmed last week that Ipswich’s initial Caceres bid had been rejected. The exact size of that Tractor Boys bid has not been disclosed, but it reportedly fell ‘far short’ of a £7.3 million asking price.
As for the man himself, Caceres feels he is no position to predict what might happen between now and Monday’s deadline.
“I don’t know,” Caceres told a fan when asked if he will leave Mexico for a fresh start in England’s second tier.
“An offer came in for Caceres,” Banos informed ESPN. “But not within the parameters we’d expect for a player who’s been here for a long time,” he adds.
“Until the [transfer windows] close in different parts of the world, we can’t guarantee any more arrivals or departures.”

Kieran McKenna putting transfers to one side as Ipswich struggle
A right-sided central defender who is a key part of Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay set-up, Caceres may replace one of Ipswich’s longest-serving sons.
Kieran McKenna is keen to keep Luke Wolfenden at Portman Road but the academy graduate’s future remains in doubt. Watford, Stoke and Coventry City are among those to have been linked.
“The reality is [new transfers] are important, but it’s not where my focus is,” McKenna told the East Anglian Daily Times after Ipswich’s frustrating start to the season continued with a 1-0 defeat at Preston North End.
“As a manager, you always have to focus on the players that you have and not what may or may not come in the door, or somebody who might not stay.
“You can pin all your hope on signing somebody for a certain position and that will solve everything or improve us greatly, but that player can get injured on the first day.”
