Georgia opens as significant favorites over Ole Miss football

The No. 7 Georgia Bulldogs (5-1, 3-1 SEC) are seven point home favorites over the No. 5 Ole Miss Rebels (6-0, 3-0 SEC). The winner of the Georgia-Ole Miss game will have an inside track to making the SEC championship and College Football Playoff while the loser will have a major setback.

Georgia is fresh off a 20-10 road win over Auburn. Georgia struggled in the first half against Auburn before scoring 20 unanswered points. The Bulldogs will look to get off to a quicker start against Ole Miss, who beat Washington State 24-21 at home ahead of the Georgia game.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart and Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin both served as assistants at Alabama under Nick Saban. The two coached together at Alabama from 2014-2015 before Smart accepted the job at Georgia.

“I have a lot of respect for Lane (Kiffin),” Smart said. “He does an incredible job. Probably one of the best things he does is in-game coaching, having coached with him and watched him for years.”

Georgia vs. Ole Miss predictions, picks for college football Week 8

James Morgan, UGA Wire

Georgia should be able to exploit Ole Miss’ run defense, which ranks No. 14 in the SEC and is allowing 157.7 yards per game. However, we think Ole Miss will be able to pass against Georgia’s defense (No. 11 in the SEC, allowing 215.5 yards per game) and make the game a bit of a shootout.

Prediction: Georgia 28, Ole Miss 24
