Georgia Bracing for Bad News With Carson Beck Injury: Report

The Georgia Bulldogs managed to survive their second matchup with the Texas Longhorns as SEC champions on Saturday, but it came with a significant loss.

UGA lost starting quarterback Carson Beck on the final play of the second quarter to a shoulder injury. He was attempting a desperation heave from near midfield when Texas linebacker Trey Moore struck his throwing arm.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart told reporters after the game that no details were available regarding Beck’s injury, which appeared severe in real-time. He was replaced by backup Gunner Stockton, who completed 12 of 16 passes for 71 yards and an interception while leading the Bulldogs to two touchdowns and two field goals in the second half and overtime.

“He’s got an upper-extremity injury,” Smart said. “We don’t know how severe. It looked okay, but he couldn’t grip or throw the ball in the locker room.”

However, 48 hours after the SEC Championship game, new details have surfaced about Beck’s condition. According to Zack Klein of WSB Channel 2 in Atlanta, Georgia isn’t expecting positive news about its quarterback’s status.

“The feeling from multiple sources within the Georgia Bulldog football program is that QB Carson Beck has a UCL elbow injury and will miss the Sugar Bowl,” Klein reported. “UGA is still awaiting official MRI results.”

Beck has started all 13 games for the Bulldogs this season. He ranks eighth nationally in touchdowns (28), ninth in passing yards (3,485), and is tied for 35th in completion percentage (64.7%).

While Beck has thrown more touchdowns this season than last (28 to 24), his performance has declined in other areas, including passing yards per game (268.1 in 2024, 285.1 in 2023), interceptions (six in 2023, 12 in 2024), and completion percentage (72.4 in 2023, 6

4.7 in 2024).
