FOOTBALL – Leicester City boss Marti Cifuentes has ‘respect’ for Coventry City’s impressive season so far ahead of M69 derby

LEICESTER City manager Marti Cifuentes has ‘respect’ for what Coventry City have done in the Championship so far this season.

Coventry host the Foxes in the second M69 derby clash of the season this weekend.

The Sky Blues head into the derby match top of the table while Leicester find themselves down in 12th place.

And following a goalless draw between the two clubs earlier this campaign, Cifuentes admits the Sky Blues deserve to be top of the table at this stage.

Cifuentes said: “We have the memories of the last game we played against them at home.

“It was quite a good performance against a team who are obviously doing really well.

“We respect the opponent and we respect what Coventry have done this season.

“Credit to them that they started the season at an amazing level.

“Picking up a lot of points that gave them the possibility they have now.

“The last results have not been as excellent as they were at the beginning of the season.

“But still, they are in the position they are because they deserve to be there.

“That shows with a stable group of players and they have built an identity.”

Coventry host Leicester on Saturday, January 17 with kick-off at 12.30pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
