FIve Arsenal players named in the PFA Team of the Year, there is one notable omission

Although Arsenal fell just short of the Premier League title last season, they did perform superbly throughout what was a record-breaking campaign.

Mikel Arteta’s side amassed 89 points, Arsenal’s highest total since the Invincibles, whilst they recorded their highest-ever goals total, and best defensive record, of any of their sides in the Premier League era.

This was not enough to win the trophy, with Manchester City finishing just two points ahead, but Arsenal will want to right that wrong this season as they aim to get their hands on the trophy.

Nevertheless, several Arsenal players have now earned recognition for their performances as an astonishing five have been selected for the PFA Team of the Year.

Five Arsenal stars named in PFA Team of the Year

Arsenal’s incredible defensive efforts were recognised, as goalkeeper David Raya as well as centre-backs William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes, were all named in the PFA Team of the Year, which is voted for by members of the Professional Football Association, comprising of players in the Premier League.

Joining the Arsenal stars in the back line were Man City defender Kyle Walker, and Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk. Rodri joined Odegaard and Rice in midfield, whilst the front three was comprised of Phil Foden, Erling Haaland and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.

There is one notable absentee Arsenal fans will be furious about.

Bukayo Saka misses out on PFA Team of the Year

Bukayo Saka is arguably the face of Arsenal Football Club right now, as the most potent attacker in the team, as well as one of the most important players, and a homegrown talent from the Academy.

Saka recorded 16 goals and nine assists in 35 Premier League appearances, and was a remarkably consistent figure throughout the campaign.

However, he was omitted from the Team of the Year in favour of Foden, who Saka outperformed at Euro 2024 in the England side.

Whilst Arsenal fans might be frustrated at the decision, Foden was part of the title-winning team, and recorded 19 goals and eight assists in 35 games, just edging out Saka in terms of goals and assists.

Saka was unlucky to miss out now, but he could be more driven than ever to force his way in for next year, and he will hope to enter the team as a title-winner.
