France legend Emmanuel Petit has spoken about his former Chelsea teammate Frank Lampard
France World Cup legend Emmanuel Petit says that keeping Coventry City in the Premier League will be a bigger achievement for his old teammate Frank Lampard than getting the club promoted.
The former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder played alongside the Sky Blues boss at Chelsea in the early 2000s and couldn’t be happier to see him succeeding as a manager.
But the 55-year-old believes Lampard needs to recruit some experienced players to fulfil his and City’s ambitions of staying in the elite division next season.
“Promoted teams often find it difficult to stay in the Premier League, but I’m happy Frank stayed at Coventry,” said Petit, reflecting on Lampard committing himself to the CBS Arena with a new three year contract.
Speaking to Boyle Sports he added: “He has great ambition and something to prove. Managing them in the top flight is exciting, especially after the brilliant work he did last season.
“I know that he would have probably received different offers, I think he’s got great ambition. He has something probably to prove as well, Getting back to the Premier League is something very exciting.
“Coventry and Lampard are linked together now. I wish him all the best in the fight to stay up, though it will be very difficult. They will need a few experienced players to survive. Staying in the Premier League would be a bigger achievement than getting there.
“Coming back to the Premier League was such a huge achievement, but staying in the Premier League would be probably bigger than that.”
