Crystal Palace bid for £4m defender as Marc Guehi nears £60m move to Newcastle

Crystal Palace have already made a bid to sign a new central defender as Marc Guehi prepares to join Newcastle.

Dougie Freedman – Director of Football at Selhurst Park – has wasted no time looking for the England international’s replacement.

Guehi is expected to join Newcastle in a £60m deal later this week – according to the Telegraph – after the Magpies opened talks with the Eagles, in what is a heavy blow for Oliver Glasner having already lost Michael Olise.

Now – however – Crystal Palace have reacted quickly by bidding for Marc Guehi‘s apparent replacement…

Crystal Palace bid for Nasser Djiga

A story from 226foot now claims that Crystal Palace have submitted a bid to sign Nasser Djiga.

The Red Star Belgrade No.24 is valued at €5m (£4.3m) by the Serbian giants, with the central defender’s representatives confirming to 226foot that he has been the subject of an offer from RC Lens, as well as Crystal Palace.

It is said that a decision on Djiga’s future is expected to be announced at some point this week, as the Burkina Faso international wanted to focus on Red Star Belgrade’s UEFA Champions League play-off.

Should our bid be accepted by Red Star Belgrade and the 21-year-old goes on to become a success in south London, it would represent superb business from Freedman, who has already made Crystal Palace enormous profits in his role as Director of Football.

Burkina Faso international could be a hidden gem

It is always exciting to be linked with a relatively unknown player – especially with someone as shrewd as Freedman overseeing recruitment.

By the looks of it, Djiga has the potential to be a star in the Premier League, given his experience so far at a young age.

The Bobo-Dioulasso-born defender has already amassed plenty of knowhow in European football, having made six UEFA Champions League appearances, including two games against Manchester City, along with seven UEFA Conference League outings.

Djiga also has six caps – and one goal – for Burkina Faso.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as we could discover the outcome of Crystal Palace’s bid later this week.
