Sugar Bowl Has Massive Implications for the Future of Georgia Football

The Sugar Bowl matchup against Notre Dame has massive implications for the future of Georgia football.

Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Gunner Stockton (14) rushes the ball against the Texas Longhorns during the second half in the 2024 SEC Championship game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Gunner Stockton (14) rushes the ball against the Texas Longhorns during the second half in the 2024 SEC Championship game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

The Sugar Bowl matchup against Notre Dame has massive implications for the future of Georgia football.

The stage has been set as the Georgia Bulldogs will take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Jan. 1st and the winner will move on to the semifinal round with their chances of winning a national title still intact. Winning a national title is the most prominent goal for Georgia at the moment and they know better than anyone recently how much a title does for a program. However, the Sugar Bowl itself has major implications for the future of Georgia’s program.

Starting quarterback Carson Beck is not expected to play in the game which means Gunner Stockton will be the head man of the offense. Stockton helped lead Georgia to victory against Texas in the SEC Championship game, but Georgia fans have not gotten to see much of him over his career. He played an extended amount of time against Florida State in the Orange Bowl last year, but outside of that, his in-game appearances have been very limited.

That also means this will be the first time fans and coaches for that matter get to see Stockton play for four quarters at the college level. There are many questions about Stockton’s ability due to the lack of snaps he has taken at Georgia, but a lot of those will likely be answered against Notre Dame.

That leads to what Georgia will discover about the future of their quarterback room in this game. Stockton was always believed to be the number two behind Beck and that was proven to be true, but it wasn’t exactly written in stone that he would be the guy in 2025 for Georgia. It seemed as if things were setting up for that to happen, but there was not a firm answer, at least not as firm as Beck being the next man up after Stetson Bennett left for the NFL.

So following the Sugar Bowl, it is likely that Georgia will have a much better understanding of the direction of their quarterback room heading into 2025. Obviously, if Stockton leads the Dawgs to another win or even multiple playoff wins, then it will be him who has a firm grasp on the job heading into the spring. But a loss would leave that starting job up for grabs next year and maybe even press Georgia into looking into the portal for another body.

There is definitely an avenue too where Georgia loses but the confidence in Stockton’s ability to be the team’s starter moving forward only grows. The same could be said that a Georgia win could lead to even more questions. The bottom line though is the Sugar Bowl should provide more clarity on the direction of Georgia’s quarterback room in the near future.

Georgia Backup Quarterback Gunner Stockton’s Modest Car Presents Stark Contrast To Carson Beck

Gunner Stockton F150 Carson Beck Mercedes Lamborghini

Gunner Stockton is going to start for the Georgia Bulldogs during the entire College Football Playoff after an injury to Carson Beck forced him to undergo season-ending surgery. The two quarterbacks’ vehicles of choice present an extremely stark contrast.

One drives multiple luxury vehicles while the other drives a vintage pickup truck.

Beck, a fifth-year senior, was projected to be one of the best signal-callers in the country this season as a likely first-round NFL Draft pick and a Heisman Trophy candidate. As such, the Classic City Collective made sure that their most important player was compensated accordingly. He received a lucrative NIL package involving multiple businesses in the greater Athens area.

Carson Beck and Gunner Stockton aren’t the same.

With a lot of money in his bank account for a college kid, Beck purchased a few luxury vehicles through Atlanta Autos. In fact, a viral video of his reckless driving during a test drive created poor optics for the program, but that’s beside the point. Carson Beck drives in style. The 22-year-old most recently added a $270,000 Lamborghini Uras — aka ‘Lamb Truck — to his already loaded garage back in February. He also has a blacked-out Dodge Charger Hellcat and a E63 Mercedes Benz.

Unfortunately, Beck will not be able to finish out his last year of college football. Stockton was thrust into the lineup during the SEC Championship and (barring unforeseen circumstances) will be the starter until Georgia loses in the Playoff.

Stockton does not drive a Lamborghini or a Mercedes. ESPN revealed that the former four-star recruit drives a vintage F150 in an biographical article by Mark Schlabach on the Friday prior to his first start!

  • Hanna Cavinder Sparks Transfer Rumors With Christmas Gift To Georgia Quarterback Carson Bec

Hanna Cavinder Sparks Transfer Rumors With Christmas Gift To Georgia Quarterback Carson Bec

Hanna Cavinder gifted Georgia quarterback Carson Beck with a sweatshirt for Christmas. The message printed on his new threads ignited rumors about the transfer portal.

It could hint at her boyfriend’s imminent departure at the end of this college football season or it could mean absolutely nothing at all.

Beck, a fifth-year senior, still has one season of eligibility remaining. He received a blanket waiver for 2020 and also used a redshirt— so he technically has six years to play five. With that in mind, there are a few different options for his future.

There is a chance that Beck could choose to turn pro and enter the NFL Draft pool. That was the plan before the season started. Analysts projected him as a top-five pick. He was a Heisman candidate.

Despite all of the hype, Beck saw a pretty steep decline in his production from 2023 to 2024. His completion clip dropped by more than eight percent. His interceptions doubled from six to 12.

NFL scouts still have their eyes on Carson Beck despite the drop off.

However, Beck injured his UCL during the SEC Championship and will miss the entire Playoff. Tommy John surgery is not off of the table. Nobody really knows his timeline for recovery.

That leaves Carson Beck with three options:

Enter the NFL Draft pool and hope teams are not scared by his down year and subsequent injury.

Return to Georgia for another season, if the Bulldogs will have him.

Enter the transfer portal and return to college football for year six on a one-year deal with a new program.

If Hanna Cavinder’s Christmas gift is any indication, Beck is going to play 2025 with a new team— either with a professional organization or with a college football team that isn’t Georgia.

She got him a sweatshirt that asks: “Who wants me?”

  • Georgia football rookie DB scores two points

Georgia football rookie DB scores two points

Former Georgia Bulldog Kamari Lassiter has already made a significant impact for the Houston Texans in his rookie season. After being selected in the second round of the 2024 NFL draft, he outperformed former Ohio State cornerback Jeff Okudah to earn the starting role.

One of Lassiter’s standout plays this season came on Christmas Day against the Baltimore Ravens. The Texans had pinned the Ravens at their own three-yard line when Lassiter tackled former legendary Alabama running back Derrick Henry in the end zone for a safety. Those two points were the Texans’ only score in their 31-2 loss to the Ravens.

Lassiter is currently tied for ninth in the defensive rookie of the year odds on BetMGM. Additionally, he holds the 10th spot among rookie DBs on PFF, with a grade of 70.1 (subscription required). As a rookie, he has shown promise, and next year, fans of the Georgia Bulldogs could look forward to his growth.

Georgia vs. Notre Dame collide in the Sugar Bowl with the goal of advancing to the semifinals of the inaugural 12-game CFP Playoff!

What a setting for the titanic showdown in the Sugar Bowl, as college football superpowers collide, the Georgia Bulldogs and Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the Sugar Bowl and the College Football Playoff.

When it comes to college football lore, Notre Dame wrote the book. The preeminent program of the first half of the 20th century, and winners of national championships in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, the Golden Dome has long been a gold standard for college football.

The list of Hall of Famers, Heisman Trophy winners and legendary coaches in South Bend is iconic. And no name is bigger at Notre Dame than one of the most famous and influential figures in the history of the American sporting landscape than Knute Rockne. One of college football’s great innovators, Rockne receives much credit for the popularity of the forward pass. His powerful Notre Dame teams of the Roaring 20s elevated college football’s popularity to the front page for sports fans, and helped transform this beloved game into a cultural phenomenon.

“Win one for the Gipper.” – future President of the United States Ronald Reagan, as George Gipp in the 1940 sports cinema classic Knute Rockne, All-American.

Rockne tragically died in a plane crash on March 31, 1931 at the age of 43. He and Notre Dame were at the height of their dominance and popularity. The Fighting Irish were coming off back to back national championships in 1929 and 1930. Along with the No. 1 ranking of 1924, Rockne led Notre Dame to three national titles in his 13 seasons as Notre Dame’s head coach.

Knute Rockne’s career head coaching record was an amazing 105-12-5.

Kirby Smart’s record as Georgia’s head coach is 105-18.

Like Rockne, who was a standout player at Notre Dame, Smart, who shined on the gridiron in the 1990s for the Bulldogs, is leading his alma mater to astounding success.

The numbers and accomplishments are astounding.

This trip to the Sugar Bowl extends Georgia’s record of eight consecutive major bowl berths. Presumably, since the Bulldogs are the No. 2 seed and in the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoff, the Bulldogs, even if things go wrong in the Big Easy, will be in the top ten for an eighth straight season, also extending a school record. The Bulldogs finished in the top five and had four straight major bowl appearances in the glory days of 1980 through 1983. The Dogs also finished in the top ten four straight years from 2002 through 2005. So that’s eight in a row, doubling the previous marks. Impressive.

Over Georgia’s last 61 games, the Bulldogs are 57-4. Let that sink in, 57-4. This of course includes a pair of National Championship Game victories.

During this run, the Bulldogs set an SEC record with a 42-game regular season winning streak.

The Bulldogs went 12-0 in the regular seasons of 2021, 2022 and 2023, becoming the first team in college football history to reach 12-0 at any point of a season in three consecutive years.

From the 2021 CFP semifinal Orange Bowl victory over Michigan through the 2023 topping of the Yellow Jackets on The Flats, Georgia won 29 consecutive games, the longest winning streak by an SEC team ever.

The Bulldogs won 28 straight SEC games, a record.

Georgia, with the streak extended in the 44-42 eight overtime thriller over the Jackets – has won 31 successive games on Dooley Field in Sanford Stadium.. That is a school record, the longest active streak in the country, and it ties the SEC mark for consecutive home victories set by Nick Saban’s Alabama teams of the 2010s. Saban’s and Smart’s powerhouse teams’ streaks broke the previous total of 30, set by Steve Spurrier’s Mighty Gators of the 1990s.

Georgia’s victory over Texas in Atlanta marked the Bulldogs 7th trip to the SEC Championship Game in eighy years under Smart’s watch. No team or coach had ever been to six of seven – neither Spurrier’s Gators nor Saban’s Elephants – until Kirby’s Canines a year ago. Seven of eight extends that milestone, which could stand a long, long time.

These Bulldogs of 2024 became the fourth consecutive Georgia team to sweep Tech, Florida, Auburn and Tennessee. That’s 16-0 against the Yellow Jackets, Gators, War Eagle Tigers and Volunteers for this senior class. Under Smart’s watch, since his second season when this remarkable run began, the Bulldogs are 30-2 against Tech, Florida, Auburn and Tennessee. This includes a seven game winning streak against the Yellow Jackets, seven of eight against Florida and eight in a row over both Auburn and Tennessee.

And of course, there are those sacred national titles of 2021 and 2022, as Georgia became the only team in the College Football Playoff era to win back-to-back national championships.

The 2021 national championship was Georgia’s first since 1980, when the Bulldogs beat none other than Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl cap a perfect 12-0 title campaign.

Beat the rivals, collect the championships and trophies.

To borrow from another unforgettable ‘40s movie line, ‘it’s the stuff that dreams are made of.”

But as Kirby always reminds us – along the lines of walking, not talking, being confident, not cocky, humility is always just a week away.

Notre Dame is waking up the echoes on the 100-year anniversary of Rockne’s first national title in South Bend. Smart’s Bulldogs meanwhile are aiming to write another chapter in these Georgia tales of glory. It’s a dream come true for the sons and daughters of the Red and Black, that this era for Georgia and Smart are comparable to those days for Notre Dame and Rockne.

  • How They Got Here: Georgia Bulldogs Path To The College Football Playoff

How They Got Here: Georgia Bulldogs Path To The College Football Playoff

It’s been a long road to get to this point for head coach Marcus Freeman and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. 107 days ago, they lost in their home opener, now, the Irish are winners of 11 straight football games, 10 of them by double digits, including a first round playoff win at home over the No. 10 seed Indiana Hoosiers.

The Georgia Bulldogs have been sitting in waiting since they won the SEC Title on December 7, and now, they have their opponent. Notre Dame will travel down to SEC country and take them head on in the Allstate Sugar Bowl on New Years Day.

It’s been an up and down season for head coach Kirby Smart and the dogs, but all roads have led them back to the College Football Playoffs. Georgia is the No. 2 seed, and received the first round bye after defeated Texas 22-19 in the SEC Championship game in over time. It was a long road for the Bulldogs, with many ups and downs. Let’s take a look at how they got here.

    Battling Adversity

It was a new year of college football, and with the new additions to conferences like the Big Ten and the SEC, the layout of conferences were completely different, which meant that Georgia would no longer be playing an SEC East specific schedule, they’d be playing the conference as a whole.

The Bulldogs had one of the toughest schedules in all of college football this season having played Clemson, Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ole Miss in Oxford, Tennessee at home, and Texas in Austin and the SEC championship game. Georgia went 11-2 against that schedule, won the SEC Title, and earned a first round bye in the first 12 team College Football Playoff, but it did not come easily. In week four of the season, they played Alabama at Bryant Denney Stadium, and found themselves in a 30-7 halftime deficit. They battled all the way back but unfortunately lost the game 41-34. Five games later, they played Ole Miss on the road and got soundly beaten 28-10.

The common thread in both losses was their response. After dropping a game to the Crimson Tide, they went on a four game winning streak including beating Texas in Austin 30-15. After the Ole Miss loss, they finished the season on a four game win streak including a 31-17 win over Tennessee at home and a 22-19 over time win against Texas in the SEC Championship. When you factor in all of the off field distractions for this program and injuries, you could make the argument Georgia is one of, if not the most, battle tested programs in all of college football this season.

Now, Coach Smart and the Bulldogs will have to battle adversity once again heading into the Sugar Bowl against a hot Notre Dame team without starting quarterback Carson Beck, who was injured on the final play of the first half in the SEC Title game.

    Game 1: vs Clemson – Won 34-3

Georgia kicked off it’s regular season in emphatic fashion with a dominating 31 point victory over Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers. Beck began his season going 23-33 for 278 passing yards and two touchdowns. The Dogs defense held Clemson to 188 total yards of offense and three total points. The Tigers ended the afternoon with 46 total rushing yards as a team and were kept out of the end zone. Georgia was rolling early.

Game 2: vs Tennessee Tech – Won 48-3

In back to back weeks, the Bulldogs kept their opponents out of the end zone. The Golden Eagles were held to 134 total yards of offense and just 18 passing yards. Georgia amassed 498 passing yards including 332 through the air. Beck finished the afternoon with 242 passing yards and five passing touchdowns. As a team, they averaged 6.9 yards per carry, and had 27 first downs to Tennessee Tech’s 9. The Golden Eagles were held scoreless through the first three quarters. It was a 45-0 ball game heading into the fourth.

    Game 3: at Kentucky – Won 13-12

Georgia opened up SEC play against Kentucky and showed their first signs of struggle. The Wildcats entered this matchup 1-1 and looked to upset Smart and the Dogs. This was the definition of a defensive battle, with it being a field goal battle until Georgia scored the lone touchdown of the game late in the fourth quarter. They lost time of possession by nearly ten minutes, and were held to 12 first downs all game. The Wildcats out gained them, but Georgia averaged more yards per play. Their late score kept their record untarnished.

    Game 4: at Alabama – Lost 41-34

This game will go down as one of the most exciting games in the 2024 season. Alabama jumped out to an early 21-0 lead after the first quarter, and went into halftime with a 30-7 lead. Jalen Milroe was unstoppable in the first half and finished the game with 491 total yards of offense and four total touchdowns. Georgia rallied late, and scored 19 points in the fourth quarter. Beck finished the night with 439 yards passing and three passing touchdowns. The Crimson Tide held Georgia to just 80 rushing yards and 3-15 on third down. Their first half deficit was too much to overcome and the Bulldogs were handed their first loss of the season.

    Game 5: vs Auburn – Won 31-13

It was bounce back week, and Georgia continued their trek through SEC play. Auburn entered this matchup 2-3 and were looking to pull off the upset against the reeling Bulldogs. Unfortunately for the Tigers, they never pulled within reach of an upset. Georgia dominated this game from start to finish and went into half time with a 14-3 lead. Auburn scored their lone touchdown of the game in the third quarter, but were otherwise held out of the end zone. Beck and Trevor Etienne combined for four touchdowns and 364 total yards of offense to down the Tigers and win by 18.

Game 6: vs Mississippi State – Won 41-31

Sloppy played reared it’s ugly head again as Georgia took on the struggling 1-4 Mississippi State Bulldogs. Georgia started off hot, and took a 27-10 lead into half time, but two interceptions by Beck opened the door for a comeback for Mississippi State. They were able to outscore Georgia 21-14 in the second half, but were unable to complete the comeback and ended up losing by ten. Coach Smart and the Dogs were now 5-1 heading into their matchup with Texas.

    Game 7: at Texas – Won 30-15

There were several questions surrounding Georgia’s ability to win big games heading into this matchup. They had lost to Alabama and already had two ugly wins against Kentucky and Mississippi State, two of the worst teams in the SEC. The Bulldogs answered those questions in resounding fashion. Georgia’s defense showed why they should be considered one of the best in the country. The held the Longhorns scoreless in every quarter except the third and forced a total of four turnovers (three fumbles and one interception). Texas was held to 29 rushing yards as a team and 3.4 yards per play. Despite Beck’s three interception performance, the Dogs were rolling once again after beating the SEC newcomers by 15.

    Game 8: vs Florida – Won 34-20

This was a much closer game than what the final score may have indicated. Florida went into halftime with a 13-6 lead with Beck being plagued once again by turnovers. The Bulldogs outscored the Gators 28-7 in the second half and went on to win by 14. The injury to dual threat Florida quarterback DJ Lagway shifted the momentum in favor of Georgia. Despite another three interception performance from Beck, the Bulldogs moved onto 7-1 on the season.

Game 9: at Ole Miss – Lost 28-10

Georgia entered this matchup ranked No. 3 in the first playoff rankings and were headed to Oxford, Mississippi to take on the Ole Miss Rebels. This was by far the worst game Georgia had played all season. After scoring in the first quarter, they were held out of the end zone the rest of the game. The Rebels took a 16-7 lead into halftime and outscored Smart’s Bulldogs 12-3 in the second half. Beck was sacked five times but the Ole Miss defense. Georgia was held to 245 total yards of offense, 59 yards on the ground, and 3.8 yards per play. They also turned the ball over three times (two fumbled and an interception).

    Game 10: vs Tennessee – Won 31-17

The Bulldogs dropped nine spots after their blowout loss to Ole Miss down to No. 12 in the country. They were taking on the No. 7 ranked and 8-1 Tennessee Volunteers in a game that would make or break their playoff hopes. Georgia responded in a big way, and Beck had one of his best games of the season. He finished the day going 25-40 for 347 yards and two touchdowns. It was becoming quite clear, when Georgia doesn’t turn the ball over, they’re extremely hard to beat. They held the Vols scoreless the entire second half, and outgained them 453 yards to 319 yards. Coach Smart and the Bulldogs were back in the playoff hunt.

    Game 11: vs UMASS – Won 59-21

Georgia moved up to No. 10 in the playoff rankings after their lopsided win over Tennessee. They were hosting UMASS (2-8) in their first non-conference matchup since week two of the season. It was another great offensive performance from Georgia as they tallied 550 total yards of offense, 342 through the air and 208 on the ground. Beck had another clean game and finished the night 20-31 for 297 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions. Georgia’s defense struggled stopping the run, allowing the Minutemen to amass 226 yards on the ground.

    Game 12: vs Georgia Tech – Won 44-42 (8 OT’s)

Clean, old-fashioned hate. That’s how all Georgia residents describe this long time, in-state rivalry, and this year it did not disappoint. The Bulldogs had climbed back up to No. 7 in the playoff rankings and were taking on the 7-4 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Georgia Tech jumped out to a 17-0 halftime lead over the Dogs in Athens and took a 17-6 lead into the fourth quarter.

Georgia rallied behind a 21 point fourth quarter to force over time. Throughout the game, the Dogs had no answer for Yellow Jackets quarterback Haynes King. King finished the night with 303 passing yards, 110 rushing yards, and five total touchdowns. Beck stepped up and lead Georgia to their biggest comeback win of the season and finished the night 28-43 for 297 yards, five touchdowns, and zero interceptions. Georgia won in eight overtimes in a shootout of two point conversions. Coach Smart was 10-2 and looking to play in the SEC Championship for the fourth year in a row.

Georgia moved up to No. 5 in the country before taking on Texas (No. 2) in a rematch for the SEC Title. Texas jumped out to an early 6-3 lead heading into halftime, but the biggest story line was the injury to Beck. Gunner Stockton took over at quarterback in the second half and rallied the dogs back to force overtime. Georgia held the Longhorns to a field goal, and Trevor Etienne punched in the game winning touchdown. The Bulldogs running game took over in the second half and Texas had no answers. Despite being outgained, winning the turnover battle, time of possession, and ground game was enough to beat Texas, win the SEC, and earn a first round bye in the playoffs.

    In this story:

With Carson Beck’s season over, here is how the Bulldogs’ fanbase should look back on his time as Georgia’s quarterback.

Earlier this week, reports surfaced that Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck received surgery to repair the UCL ligament in his throwing arm. Subsequently ending his 2024 season and likely concluding his time as a Georgia Bulldog. With Beck’s collegiate career seemingly over, how should Georgia fans reflect on the quarterback’s career in The Red and Black?

While Beck was only the starter during the 2023 and 2024 seasons, his story begins much before then. The quarterback was a highly touted member of the Bulldogs’ 2020 signing class and was listed as a 4-star at the time of his commitment. Unfortunately, his freshman season was anything but normal, as the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic shortened all college football seasons and even saw numerous games canceled.

Following the conclusion of his freshman season, Beck seemed poised to at the very least earn some playing time during the regular season. As spring scrimmages and fall camps concluded, reports sprinkled in that Beck had made massive strides from his freshman year and was likely the second-string quarterback behind starter JT Daniels. However, once Daniels was sidelined with an injury early into the 2021 season, Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs’ staff elected to name Stetson Bennett the starter of the Bulldogs’ offense due to his experience.

Beck would see action sparingly throughout the year, while Bennett went on to lead the Dawgs to their first national title in over 40 years. Following the 2021 season, Bennett announced that he would be returning for one more season as the Bulldogs’ quarterback. This led to many fans anticipating Beck to enter the transfer portal and look for opportunities elsewhere.

Despite expectations to transfer, Beck remained steadfast in his loyalty to the “G” and served as the Bulldogs’ backup for the 2022 season. Once the season concluded, the Bulldogs were on a massive win streak and had just completed the first back-to-back national title victory in the College Football Playoff era. Placing immense pressure on whoever the next starting quarterback would be.

Following an intense position battle with Brock Vandagriff ahead of the 2023 season, Carson Beck was named Georgia’s starting quarterback after waiting for three seasons. Subsequently tasking Beck with maintaining the longest win streak in Bulldogs history, winning a third straight national title, and doing so with a brand-new offensive coordinator. Understandably, the Dawgs offense struggled at times throughout the 2023 season and much of the blame was undeservedly placed on Beck.

Despite criticism, Beck finished his first year as a starter with the highest single-season completion percentage in Georgia football history and led the Bulldogs to a dominating victory over Florida State in the Orange Bowl. With Beck’s 4th collegiate season concluded anticipations of him entering the NFL Draft began to rise. But once again, the quarterback’s loyalty to Georgia shined through as he elected to come back for one more season as the Dawgs’ quarterback.

As the 2024 season approached, expectations for Beck and the Georgia offense remained extremely high. Unfortunately, suspensions, injuries, and lackluster play from surrounding talent led to numerous games where the Bulldogs’ offense struggled. Beck had his fair share of struggles as well and went through a rough period of games throughout the regular season, which led to him receiving mass amounts of criticism and was often the subject of many jokes.

However, Beck once again overcame the criticisms and led the Dawgs to an SEC title appearance against all odds. Sadly, the SEC Championship would be his last appearance as Georgia’s quarterback, as he would suffer an injury to his throwing arm that would require surgery.

Carson Beck’s lengthy story with the Georgia Bulldogs certainly did not have the storybook ending that many would have liked to see. But that is far from the legacy that the quarterback is leaving behind. In an era where players demand absorbent amounts of money to commit, transfer when they don’t play, and head off to the NFL Draft as soon as possible. Carson Beck was an outlier for Georgia and dedicated his entire college career (and then some) to the Bulldogs.

The term “Damn Good Dawg” (or DGD for short) is used by the Georgia fanbase and is reserved for only the most deserving of Bulldogs. While Carson Beck likely won’t go down as the greatest Georgia quarterback of all time, nor will his jersey be retired anytime soon. The quarterback showed vast amounts of determination, poise, and loyalty that helped bring some of the greatest moments in the history of Georgia football and will absolutely go down in history as a “Damn Good Dawg.”

Florida Gators Insider Hints at Potential Huge Staff Move

A Florida Gators insider made a point that indicated that a huge move on the coaching staff could be coming

If the buzz around the Florida Gators hadn’t been lively enough after the huge flip of wide receiver recruit Dallas Wilson, GatorOnline reporter Zach Abolverdi added fuel to the fire Monday night, hinting at a potential staff move that would make Florida fans ‘go nuts.’

Abolverdi, the reporter who first broke the Wilson flip news as well as many other big stories, spent the night on the Hightop Sports YouTube channel talking to host Shelton and former Gator Steven Harris about all things Florida. As they got into staff changes, Abolverdi sprinkled a little bit of holiday excitement for the viewers.

“Yeah, they are going to have some moves,” Abolverdi said about staff changes, “If what happens actually happens, from what I am hearing, Florida fans would go nuts.”

The Gators staff has been consistently changing over the years, with new faces such as Ron Roberts, Will Harris, Gerald Chatman and Tyler Miles being added just last year. More change is clearly coming, especially with co-defensive coordinator Austin Armstrong’s departure to the University of Houston.

While the potential for a new co-defensive coordinator is obvious, there have also been lingering rumors of an offensive coordinator hire since early in the Gator’s season.

Florida’s offense ranked 62th in PPG in the nation and 81st in yards per game. Passing wise, the Billy Napier and Russ Callaway led attack only threw the ball 43.83% of the time, ranking 98th in the country, and averaged only 205.7 yards per game, 90th in the country.

With the highly rated freshman DJ Lagway showing the ability to air it out in his first year, the hope is that we see a more potent passing attack next season, possibly led by a new face.

Though the Florida faithful will surely have many ideas of potential candidates Abolverdi could be hinting at, the Gator writer believes the move will prove to be a big shock to all.

“Nobody knows it is coming,” said Abolverdi, “The only way anyone will know what is coming is if it gets leaked.”

When Hightop host Shelton mentioned the Gators expectations next year being ‘Playoff or bust,’ Abolverdi’s comments sent the audience into even more of a spiral.

“Oh, if this happens, Florida will be…Man.”

For now, Gators fans will just have to wait and see, hoping for some exciting news under the Christmas tree this year.

  • Carson Beck now faces the biggest decision of his life

Carson Beck now faces the biggest decision of his life

Late on Monday night, Georgia football announced that QB Carson Beck underwent a successful surgery on his elbow which will unfortunately end his season before UGA’s College Football Playoff run even began.

This news really wasn’t all that surprising as it was hinted at ever since he suffered the injury during Georgia’s win over Texas in the SEC Championship game. However, it is still heartbreaking even if it was expected.

But now that this news is officially out there, it is time for Beck to move on to a very important offseason. And this offseason he will have to face one of the biggest decisions of his life.

Should Carson Beck go pro or return for one more season?

At the end of last season, Beck made the somewhat surprising decision to return to Georgia for another season. Beck could have entered the 2024 NFL Draft and would have been selected somewhat high, but he decided to return for this season which was thought to be his last season of college football.

However, Beck does have one more year of eligibility remaining, and based on how this last year went it may not be a bad idea for him to return to Georgia again.

It’s no secret that Beck didn’t have the season anyone was hoping for this year. Beck did not perform at the level that he did last year, and because of that his NFL Draft stock dropped throughout the season. Fast forward to the end of the season and Beck suffered this injury to his elbow which will drop his draft stock even more. So Beck could make the decision to return for another season to show that this injury isn’t an issue and that he is as good of a player as everyone thought heading into this year.

However, there is always a chance that his draft stock doesn’t improve next year. What if Beck plays even worse next season? What if he suffers another injury? Both of those things could see him fall even further in the draft, which is the last thing anyone wants to see.

This is an extremely difficult decision for Beck. There are many pros and cons to both decisions, so it will be interesting to see how it all unfolds this offseason. But one thing is certain, and that is that the Georgia football program and fans will have Beck’s back no matter what he decides to do.
