Amusan Claims Silver In 100m Hurdles At Tokyo World Championships

Tobi Amusan has once again proven why she remains one of the brightest stars in global athletics after storming to a silver medal in the women’s 100m hurdles at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. The Nigerian sprint hurdler produced a stunning performance in a high-quality final that kept fans on the edge of their seats from start to finish.

Amusan, who is the 2022 World Champion and the current world record holder in the event, lined up as one of the favorites heading into the race. The atmosphere inside the Tokyo Olympic Stadium was electric as the eight finalists crouched in their blocks. When the gun went off, Amusan exploded out quickly, keeping up with the fast-starting American star Jasmine Camacho-Quinn and Jamaica’s Danielle Williams.

The race soon became a thrilling three-way battle. Amusan’s trademark quick turnover over the barriers was on full display, and she appeared in contention for gold heading into the final two hurdles. However, Camacho-Quinn held her form superbly and managed to edge ahead just before the finish line, taking gold in a season’s best time. Amusan crossed the line second, clocking a brilliant 12.30 seconds, securing Nigeria’s first medal of the Championships.

Though she missed out on retaining her world title, Amusan’s silver medal performance was met with applause and admiration from the crowd. Her ability to remain consistent on the world stage despite a rollercoaster of ups and downs over the past year is a testament to her mental strength and dedication. Speaking after the race, Amusan expressed mixed feelings about the result but remained optimistic about her future.

“I gave it everything on the track tonight,” Amusan said with a smile. “Of course, as an athlete you always want to win, but I am grateful to be back on the podium representing my country. This silver means a lot, and I know there’s still more to come.”

Amusan’s journey to this silver medal was far from easy. She faced a challenging season filled with injuries and intense competition from her rivals, including Camacho-Quinn, Williams, and American hurdler Kendra Harrison. Her ability to peak at the right time and deliver when it mattered most shows the resilience that has defined her career.

For Nigeria, Amusan’s medal is a moment of pride and inspiration. Athletics fans back home celebrated her achievement on social media, hailing her as a national hero and role model for young athletes. Her silver medal adds to her growing legacy as one of Africa’s greatest track and field stars.

With the 2025 season nearing its end, Amusan will now shift focus to next year’s major competitions, including the Diamond League circuit and preparations for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. If her Tokyo performance is any indication, Tobi Amusan is far from done chasing greatness.
