Dara O’Shea is excited to see what Anis Mehmeti can bring to Ipswich Town

Ipswich Town captain Dara O’Shea is excited to see Anis Mehmeti join the club, labelling him as ‘one of the best players in the league’

The 25-year-old joined the Blues from Bristol City in a £3.5m deal last Friday, making his debut off he bench just over 24 hours later in a 3-1 defeat away to Sheffield United.

Mehmeti arrives in Suffolk with a strong reputation and is expected to flourish at Portman Road, having notched eight goals and six assists in 28 Championship games for the Robins this season – prior to his recent switch.

O’Shea also highlighted his off-ball work, which will be important under his new boss, Kieran McKenna.

“He’s a really good player, and we were obviously very excited when we heard he was coming in,” he said.

“He’s one at the best players in the league – technically, with the ball at his feet, he’s amazing.

“You saw that in glimpses today [v Sheffield United], getting on the ball and trying to bring us forward.

“Off the ball as well, his work rate is top. That’s something that’s going to align with the group. We’re a hard working group, we pride ourselves on that.

“I think him coming into the group now, he can maybe add to that a bit more and push us on again.”
