The 22-year-old sustained a dislocated ankle in the first week of pre-season back in November, which saw him wear a protective boot for a month.

But his rehabilitation has gone well, and at a slightly quicker rate than first anticipated, with Eseh having travelled to Tenerife for Wigan’s demanding warm-weather pre-season camp.

“My rehab is going well, to be fair,” Eseh told Wigan Today.

“I think it was on the second day (of pre-season), I just fell back awkwardly and dislocated my ankle, so I damaged some ligaments in my ankle, but luckily enough, I didn’t need to have surgery or anything like that – the physios did a good job of popping it back in!

“I was in a boot for around four weeks. I think I came out of it early because I was progressing quite well, and I’ve started doing some running now, so it’s going well, and I’m happy with it.

“There have been some days when I’m training by myself, but that hasn’t been too bad because there were a few injured boys beforehand, so I’m enjoying getting back on my feet now.”

Eseh says he is hopeful of being fit and available for the start of the 2026 Super League season, with Wigan getting their campaign underway with an away trip to Castleford Tigers on Sunday, February 15.

“I’m hoping to be (fit for the start of the season),” Eseh added.

“I think we said Round Two originally, but we can probably push that forward a little bit. We’ve still got that aim of Round Two, but if it all goes well and we keep progressing well with the rehab, then we can push it forward a bit, but we’ll just see how my body reacts.”

Eseh is currently in his third pre-season with Wigan, having arrived from Wakefield Trinity ahead of the 2024 campaign.

Having spent last season on loan at Hull FC, the Leeds-born prop is aiming to make his first-team debut for Matt Peet’s side in 2026.
