Eagles manager will leave when his contract expires, while centre-back is close to joining Man City
Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has announced that he will leave the club when his contract expires this summer.
The Austrian replaced Roy Hodgson at Selhurst Park in February 2024 and steered Palace to a 10th-place finish in the Premier League at the end of the 2023/24 season.
Glasner has subsequently gone on to become the club’s most successful ever manager after winning the FA Cup in 2025, with Eberechi Eze’s goal securing a 1-0 win against Manchester City at Wembley.
That triumph also secured European football for Palace, another first for the club, while they finished the 2024/25 league campaign in 12th. They are currently 13th in the table ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
“A decision has already been taken, months ago,” Glasner revealed during a press conference on Friday.
“I had a meeting with Steve [Parish] in October, the international break. We had a very long talk, and I told him I will not sign a new contract.
“We agreed at the time it was the best to keep it between us. It’s the best that we could do that and keep it confidential for three months.
“But now it’s important to have clarity, and we had a very busy schedule so that’s why we didn’t want to talk about it. Steve and I want the best for Crystal Palace.”

Guehi transfer ‘in final stages’
Glasner has also stated that club captain Marc Guehi will not be in the Eagles’ squad to face Sunderland on Saturday.
Media reports suggest that the England international is closing in on a move to Manchester City. Like Glasner, Guehi’s contract with Palace was due to expire in the summer.
“My latest understanding is that a deal with Marc is in the final stages,” said Glasner. “I can’t confirm a club, because it’s still not done but it’s in the final stages.
“The result is that Marc doesn’t play tomorrow for us.
“When the players want to move on a deal will happen. It looks like it has happened now.
“Everyone wanted Marc to stay forever. I talked to him, of course, it stays between us. Marc showed it in the summer transfer window, showed it the whole autumn that he was 100 per cent committed to the team and to Crystal Palace.
“I wish him all the best for the rest of his career. He is still at the beginning of his great career. He is a fantastic guy.”
Mateta’s future in doubt
Glasner also admits striker Jean-Philippe Mateta could leave Palace this month.
“It’s the same [as Marc Guehi],” he said. “There will be a price where Crystal Palace say ‘OK, there’s 18 months left on his contract and we do the deal if JP wants’.
“If nobody pays this price then JP will stay.”
