Matt Bloomfield is taking charge of his fourth club on his managerial career.
Former Ipswich Town player Matt Bloomfield has been appointed the new head coach of Championship side Oxford United.
The 41-year-old has been out of work since he was sacked by League One side Luton Town in October and succeeds Gary Rowett who was dismissed by the U’s on December 23rd.

Bloomfield takes over at the Kassam Stadium, with Oxford currently sitting 23rd in the second tier, three points adrift of safety.
He now goes into his fourth managerial role since 2022, having started at Colchester United before taking over from Gareth Ainsworth at Wycombe Wanderers in 2023.
Felixstowe-born Bloomfield had the Chairboys in a League One promotion push up against big-spending Birmingham City and Wrexham last season. He left Adams Park for Luton in January last year, but was unable to prevent the Hatters from suffering back-to-back relegations to the third tier and was dismissed after an underwhelming start to 2025/26.
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Matt Bloomfield as Head Coach of the men’s team.
Speaking after his appointment, Bloomfield said: “I’m incredibly proud to be joining Oxford United.
“This felt like the right place at the right time. Oxford United are a club with good foundations, ambition, and a playing group with significant potential, and that matches exactly where I am as a coach.
“I want my teams to work hard, attack with purpose, and play with a clear identity. Everyone has to understand their role, be accountable, and deliver consistently.
“I can’t wait to get out onto the grass and begin working with the players and staff to help this club push forward this season and beyond.”
Bloomfield came through the youth ranks at Town, making just one senior appearance during his spell at Portman Road. He later spent some time coaching in the academy.
