Ty Simpson after Alabama’s win over Tennessee: ‘Smoke ‘em if you got ‘em’

This one meant a little more to Ty Simpson than most.

The Alabama quarterback, a native of Martin, Tennessee, led the No. 6 Crimson Tide to a 37-20 win over the No. 11 Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday night.

“It’s very, very sweet,” Simpson told ABC. “Means a lot to my family.”

He dedicated the win to his family in Weakley County.

“This one’s for them,” he said. “I have a lot of family members that didn’t get to make it. But I have a lot of family members that are here. Blessed to be a part of the Crimson Tide. Blessed to be a part of this awesome team. … God Bless, Alabama.

“Smoke ‘em if you got ‘em.”

Zabien Brown returned an interception 99 yards for a touchdown as time expired in the first half to turn the momentum in the rivalry known as the “Third Saturday in October.”

“That was an awesome game against a really good team,” Simpson told ABC. “I told them at the beginning of the week we got to keep going. … The guys did a good job. We rallied around our defense.”

Brown’s pick gave the Tide a 23-7 lead and was all Alabama’s defense needed while turning in its best performance of the season. The Tide (6-1, 4-0 SEC) held the nation’s highest-scoring offense to just 410 yards, well below its 529-yard average.
