Manager confirms player’s move to Ipswich – Travelled this morning, wanted to keep him – Sport Witness

Como manager Cesc Fabregas has confirmed that Ivan Azon is set to join Ipswich Town, after choosing them over Valencia.

Alfredo Pedulla covers comments from the Como manager today in which he confirms that Azon has decided to head to Ipswich rather than Italy.

A report earlier today explained that Azon was ‘already flying’ to England to sign for Ipswich on a season-long loan deal from the Italian side.

The Championship side have moved ahead of Valencia to secure the signing of the 22-year-old, with the Spanish side having been close.

Instead, a report from Spain stated that there had been disagreements over the youngster at the Mestalla and so Ipswich stepped in instead.

He is now believe to be flying to England to compete a medical and complete the loan deal, which will include an obligation to buy set at €10-12m if Ipswich are promoted back to the Premier League this season.

A deal appears to be in the final stages and Fabregas has now confirmed that the player has chosen to make the move to Portman Road this summer.

“The transfer market is open to everyone,” he said.

“Strefezza wasn’t supposed to leave, and it happened. But anyone who doesn’t want to stay here will leave.

“I wanted to keep Ivan Azon, but this morning he took a trip to Ipswich. A loan deal is good for the club and for him; he’ll play in an important, difficult competition. It’s his choice. We have to wait; there are two weeks left.”
