On Friday, the Cardinals formally placed linebacker Dennis Gardeck on Injured Reserve, creating a position on the roster moving forward. Darius Robinson’s practice window ends on Wednesday, and the team must decide whether to add him to the roster or keep him on injured reserve for the remainder of the season. If they decide to activate him from injured reserve, they will need a place next week. Since his window opened more than two weeks ago, Robinson has not yet had a chance to completely practice. In addition to suffering with his mother’s passing, he was experiencing additional problems with his calf.
There are some internal choices for Gardeck’s immediate defensive role. Xavier Thomas and Victor Dimukeje are both recent healthy scratches. Mack Wilson Sr., an inside linebacker, could possibly be used more frequently on the edge for the Cardinals. Because planned starter BJ Ojulari also sustained a season-ending ACL tear during a training camp exercise, Gardeck was initially selected for the starting lineup. Gardeck ends the season with three sacks and was a vital member of the special teams.
