Mikel Arteta handed clear Arsenal transfer verdict amid Ademola Lookman and Raheem Sterling rumours

Mikel Arteta could have a huge decision to make between two potential attacking signings before Transfer Deadline Day.

Arsenal have recently been linked with moves for Ademola Lookman and Raheem Sterling.

Mikel Arteta is known to be keen to bolster his attacking options this summer. The North London club have been credited with an interest in a plethora of targets in this part of the pitch.

Benjamin Sesko has already rejected Arsenal, whilst things have gone quiet on the Nico Williams front in recent weeks.

Arsenal have launched a bid for Lookman, tabling a £42.5 million off for the Atalanta winger, with Jakub Kiwior also potentially included as a makeweight in that deal.

On top of that, Chelsea have told Sterling to leave. Arteta has been an admirer of the 82-cap England international for a long time, having previously worked with him whilst they were both on the Manchester City payroll.

The Gunners could now be well placed to sign either player this summer.

Should Arsenal sign Ademola Lookman or Raheem Sterling?

Lookman is the younger option of the two, at 26-years-old. He also hit new heights last season, as he scored a hat-trick in the Europa League final, as Atalanta overcame Bayer Leverkusen.

However, in previous spells in the Premier League, with Everton, Fulham, and Leicester City, the 23-cap Nigeria international failed to consistently shine.

However, whilst many Arsenal fans are against signing Lookman, he could be something of a late bloomer, and Arteta may feel that there is more to come from the forward.

Certainly, there is more reason to believe that Lookman’s best days are head of him than there are in Sterling’s case.

The 29-year-old has been underwhelming since his switch to Stamford Bridge, and has even fallen out of international selection contention, as he was left out of Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad.

The time for Arsenal to swoop for Sterling has passed, he can no longer take the Gunners to the next level. Meanwhile, whilst signing Lookman would represent something of a risk, there is a greater potential upside to such a deal.

Arsenal fans urge Mikel Arteta to forget Sterling

Many Arsenal fans on X are adamant that a move to sign Sterling now would be a mistake.

One said: “No – we do not need him- there are so many other clubs who could benefit but not Arsenal.”

Another stated: “3 years ago, yes.”

One supporter claimed: “Would be a terrible signing. Imagine the wages.”

Another added: “He is washed.”
