A 5-star RB committed to Penn State in the 2027 recruiting class has set some gameday visits for the fall, and Alabama football is one of the programs who will host him.
Kalen DeBoer and Alabama are just about finished with recruiting in the 2026 cycle. They’ve got a few loose ends to shore up, and are throwing the kitchen sink at 5-star EDGE Anthony ‘Tank’ Jones to try and keep him in-state and out of the grasp of Oregon and Texas A&M, but the majority of the recruiting Alabama will be doing in the fall will be retaining who they already have committed.
Alabama has 21 commitments in this class and will probably only take two or three more. They hope one of them is Jones, but they’ve filled the majority of their needs in this class already.
That will allow them the luxury of moving on and getting a jump start on the 2027 class.
One of the top players in the 2027 class is 5-star RB Kemon Spell, a native of McKeesport, Pennsylvania, and a Penn State commitment. With 17 months until the early signing period for Spell and his classmates, his recruitment is nowhere close to being finished despite his early commitment to the Nittany Lions.
Alabama remains in pursuit of Spell, and just learned on Monday that he will take a visit to Tuscaloosa this fall for a game.
According to Rivals, Spell will take a trip to Tuscaloosa on October 18th for a visit. That will be Alabama’s matchup against Tennessee in the Third Saturday in October rivalry, meaning Spell will get to see Bryant-Denny Stadium in top form as the home fans look to will their team to a revenge win over the Volunteers.
Spell is a 5-star recruit in the 2027 class and is ranked as the No. 1 RB and No. 1 player in the state of Pennsylvania, according to the 247 composite.
Alabama always finds itself involved with the top running back recruits every cycle. That was true under Nick Saban, thanks to the Crimson Tide becoming “RBU” under his guidance, but it hasn’t changed yet under DeBoer and the new staff.
Alabama signed the No. 2 RB in the 2025 cycle in AK Dear, who will look to carve out a role as a true freshman this season. Alabama also holds a commitment from 5-star Ezavier Crowell in the 2026 class, as DeBoer continues to stock the cupboard full of elite talent at the running back position.
Spell will likely be difficult to flip from his commitment to his home state school, but Alabama will give it an effort, and the Tide’s pedigree will make it difficult for the elite prospect to turn down.
