Sources reveal whether Arsenal will sign a striker before Deadline Day amid Darwin Nunez links

Arsenal face a race against time if they are to add a new attacker to their ranks before the summer transfer window closes.

With the transfer deadline coming at 11pm on Friday, clubs all around the Premier League are now scrambling to get their last bits of business done.

Arsenal have added two new faces to their first team squad so far this summer. First, Riccardo Calafiori arrived from Bologna to swell Mikel Arteta’s defensive options.

Then, yesterday, Arsenal announced the signing of Mikel Merino, bringing to an end the extended transfer saga that has surrounded the Spanish midfielder.

However, the Gunners may not yet be done. Ian Wright has urged Arsenal to sign an attacker before the transfer window closes. It is easy to see why the former striker has made this demand, too.

The North London club lack quality, trusted back up for Bukayo Saka, and there is also a strong argument that they need a clinical goalscorer to lead the line. Arsenal have been linked with many strikers so far this summer.

Will Arsenal sign Darwin Nunez or any other striker this summer?

According to our sources, speaking exclusively to Arsenal Insider, there is no sign of a new forward being on the horizon at the Emirates Stadium.

As it stands, Arsenal are not looking to bring in a new striker before Transfer Deadline Day on Friday.

The Gunners have considered and discussed the possibility of signing a striker throughout the summer, but they don’t expect to do anything at this point.

Nunez, for his part, is frustrated by the fact he has been afforded just 18 minutes of game time so far this season, but Liverpool are not looking to sell the Uruguayan at this time. On top of that, the Reds would surely also be reluctant to strengthen a direct title rival such as Arsenal.

Of course, given the volatile nature of the transfer market, this situation could quickly change should an unexpected opportunity present itself – Arteta and sporting director Edu Gaspar would surely be willing to capitalise in that scenario – but otherwise a new striker is not on the agenda.

It could be, though, that the Gunners are still open to sourcing a wide forward, to provide Saka with the cover and competition he needs.

What is being said about Darwin Nunez?

Whilst it now seems unlikely that Arsenal will launch a move for Nunez, that hasn’t stopped people discussing the Liverpool forward.

Arsenal fans have had their say on Nunez, and the news that he is not on Arteta’s agenda at this time will frustrate many who have backed the Spanish coach to coax the best out of the Uruguay international, just as he was able to do with Kai Havertz.

Meanwhile, back in March, Wright praised Nunez, and explained how the Reds can get more out of him.
