2025 Kentucky Football Foes: Ole Miss

Last year’s game was the diamond in the rough of a very rough season

Today we preview Kentucky’s Week 2 home game against the Ole Miss Rebels. Uh-oh, that’s not good. Every time they play Ole Miss, even when favored, bad things happen.

Under Stoops, the Cats have gone 1-3, losing in increasingly mind-boggling fashions until last year, the teams swapped roles: as significant favorites in their own stadium in Oxford, the Rebels played the role of the Wildcats and threw the game away multiple times in the final quarter!

Ole Miss last year was a College Football Playoff-caliber team, going 9-2 in every other game, but getting left out of the inaugural 12-team field because they lost at home to a Kentucky team that finished 4-8.

Kentucky single-handedly dashed Ole Miss’s playoff dreams, and that’s about all they did in 2024. But hey! That last Saturday in September was still pretty amazing! Ole Miss was ranked #6 in the AP poll at the time. Do you ever beat the #6-ranked team in an SEC road game? Nope, nuh-uh—unless you’re gonna go 4-8 and have to have something positive to remember the season for.

Prediction: They won’t have Jaxson Dart, who is off to the pros, but Ole Miss still has Coach Kiffin and is projected to be top-25 level once again. With this game being in Lexington and in Week 2, UK will have a chance, and I have to think it will be close and down to the wire.

Unfortunately, that also means it’ll probably be really painful for the entire blue and white crowd, especially considering the revenge the Rebels will want to get for last year.
