Wisconsin Badgers Football Makes In-House Hire for Safeties Coach Who Will Mentor 6 New Players After Shock Departure of Veterans

Wisconsin Badgers football continue to build as they make attempt to improve from last season but this time, they decided to not look that far as they named a new safeties coach from their own pool.

Assistant defensive backs coach Jack Cooper has reportedly been promoted to safeties coach, a position occupied before by Alex Grinch who is now in Central Florida after getting signed as their defensive coordinator.

 

Cooper’s promotion is just one of many moves the Badgers are making this season after their disappointing 2024 wherein they failed to make a bowl game for the first time in 22 years.

 

This is not Cooper’s first rodeo in this department as he already held similar position as part of Nebraska.

 

His bio on the University of Wisconsin website brags about his accomplishment as defensive coach.

In 2021, the 1st full season running the defense, the Rhode Island defense improved drastically in many major categories. The Rams moved up in the follow categories from a National Ranking. Scoring (63 Spots), Yards Per Play (87 Spots), Defensive Pass Efficiency (57 Spots), Yards Per Carry (72 Spots), Sacks Per Game (68 Spots). Cooper’s work helped Rhode Island go 7-4 that season, the program’s most wins since the 2001 season 20 years ago.

While Cooper is not new on the position, the players he will manage are.

 

Badgers football went through significant changes in the offseason. First, there’s a new offensive coordinator in Jeff Grimes.

Second, players who entered the transfer portal, with most of them part of the defense.

 

Badgers have six new players that will fall on Cooper’s jurisdiction. Among them are Matt Jung and Matthew Trayor who were both taken from the portal and are projected to start for the team.
